Timeline for surrendering Indian Passport

Hi All,

Trying to find this info but unable to find concrete answers. After getting Canadian citizenship, how much time do we have to surrender Indian passport? Is there a penalty if we don't surrender on time? I read somewhere that it depends on if we travel on Indian passport after getting another country's citizenship. Any clarifications on this would be greatly appreciated.

You have 3 years to surrender if you don’t use it for travel and 3 months grace period to travel using the passport. If you want OCI then you have to surrender - so depending on your travel plans you may fall into either category.
