Hey guys,
My immigration consultant informed us that it usually takes about four months for an outland PRS application to be processed if you submit everything (sponsorship app, medicals, FBI cert. etc) all at once (which we are going to do). I have recently come to learn that our immigration consultant isn't exactly connected to reality when it comes to timelines. So I was wondering what your experiences were.

I am asking because we intended that, once we submitted the application, we intended that I would come up to Canada and visit while my application is being processed. Our consultant told us that people do this all the time. And I figured if the application only takes four months, and I can legally visit for six, I might as well just stay there with my spouse the four months. Do people do this frequently?

The application can take longer I submitted mine the end of May and I am still waiting after 5 months. I got a 6 month visitor record when I entered Canada. If for some reason the application takes longer than 6 months you can file for an extension without having to leave canada. It should not be hard to get an extension if you can prove that you are in the middle of the PR process.

Processing times are very individual and you can't really predict what your experience will be based on what someone else went through. Also, unfortuately submitting everything doesn't necessarily guarantee the application will be processed faster. My husband's application was submitted at the same time as jmni1. I'm done - jmni1 is still waiting (hope you don't have to wait much longer jmni1!!!). I honestly thought my husband's application would take much longer to process given he lived and worked in Africa and the Middle East - and given there was one police certificate we weren't able to obtain. However things went quickly for us - and I'm sure there are simpler applications out there that are taking longer to process for no good reason.

The officially stated processing times are as follows:
Mississauga processing: 38 days
+
Buffalo processing: 4-10 months for 80% of applications (only 30% are completed within 4 months)

As jmni1 indicated, you can extend your visit once you are in Canada.

Good luck!

Cool, thanks guys!

Also, I wasn't aware that I could extend a visitor's visa, so that's helpful info.
