the timeline is dependant on what country the applicant is from...

generally speaking, the current wait time for Sponsorship approval is about 40 days. It also seems to be a bit longer than this. Once sponsorship approval is given, the applicant's application is forwarded to the proper visa office. This is when the time line differs for each country. The CIC website shows a breakdown for each visa office, however it is not totally accurate. for the most part the processing time is less than what is written.

This forum has threads for most of the visa offices, and each month has a thread for applications. it is suggested to go through the threads and find the applications that are similiar to yours. This will give you a good idea about how long current applications are taking.

Right now the Hong Kong office is at about 7 months.
