Hello all

does anybody know how much time I can be out of Canada in a year to keep my permanent residence ? Could I spend 6 months here and 6 in my home country, is there a time limit?

thanks

Thanks

so I could go back home for a year straight if I need as long as I am 730 days before the 5 year period?

It should not be an issue, two years in every five.

Can I ask...

How did you obtain your PR, spousal?
Was it recently?
Have you stayed in Canada since you gained PR?

I applied through the Quebec program, but you have to speak French as well

I am not married, I landed last August and I have only spent 3 weeks in December out of Canada for the holidays

are you in Canada?

Yes, Ottawa - my wife is Quebecois, so we are always visiting Quebec, much better approach to alcohol :)

I flew back to Canada but to Vancouver this time, thinking I would have better job opportunities since my English is way better than my french, but I am having such a hard time to find a job, any job, in Montreal I had no problem, is Quebec's unemployment lower than BC do you know?

cause I might be moving back I have been here 2 months and nothing, in Montreal I had 2 jobs in my first month

Jobs are harder to get in Vancouver. I don't know why.

On a practical note, when I hear that you are in Vancouver, then perhaps will move to Montreal, I wonder where you find accommodations that are affordable? The reason I ask is that I like to spend a few months per year in Canada, but have difficulty finding rentals for only 2-3 months (most want a one-year lease). And hotel rooms are very expensive.

So, how did you solve the accommodations problem?

There is lower unemployment in the prairie provinces if you want to live there. All hillbillies and harsh winters ;)

Hi

I go for homestay accomodation, you can stay for two weeks and up to 1 year

homestaybooking.com

it is world wide, you have to select the city you want, and the price you are willing to pay, most includes meals

you basically rent a room, because most apartments want at least 3-6 months it is true

you pay in the website a 10 percent of the total stay and the rest you pay to the person once you are there

or you can go on craigslist vancouver, rooms /shared, most go for month to month

good luck

toby,

It's not difficult at all. I rented a furnished 1 bedroom apartment for just about 3 months from rentbc.com years ago. You can look and take your chances. Hotel rooms are very expensive especially botique and 5 stars.

Well, your wife is Chinese, so you could actually ask her to check those cheap hotels listed in http://www.vansky.com/
