Time apart while establishing common law

Hi all,

I am aware of the requirement for 12 month continous cohabitation with short and temporary breaks. My question is what constitutes a short break? Could I leave Canada to visit my family for 1 week over Christmas? In addition my partner will be away on business for 5 days about three times during the year. Would that be an issue?

Short trips for a week or 2 is normal,anything beyond a month doesn't sound like
