Hi. You don't need to notarize things like fb massages. You can simply get an authorised translator to get them translated in case they are not in English. Having said that, other official documents like rental agreement, insurance policy etc if not in English or French i would get them notarized.

Im not sure if its a requirement to notarise the letter. We did however got it notarized just to be sure .

Two Notarised letters from family or friends are mandatory when applying for common law stream. You can't skip them. I do doubt if CIC would call these people.
