Hi,

I was just wondering how long a Canadian Permanent Resident card holder leave and stay abroad, more particulay their native land?
Does it depend on the native land, i'm from China if that helps. I would like to go back and visit family.

I heard that after 6 months, your PR status is revoked.

If someone can let me know what the regulations are, that would be great.

Thanks

Hi, to maintain ur PR, u have to spend 2 years out of 5 years in Canada. In between you can go anywhere you like.

Cheers..

The 6 months rule is no more applicable .... u have to stay 730 days non-consecutive in Canada to save ur PR status

Right, the 6 months rule was replaced in 2003 with the current 2 in 5 years rule. It does not matter if it is your native country or some other country but you must stay in Canada at least 730 days (2 years) in each 5 year period.
