First of all, I would like to thank all the contributors in this forum. It has been a great help for me to get my Canada's tourist visa.

So now down to the business.

I am planning on coming to Canada early next year and apply for Asylum. I have a Nepali Passport and also have a Tibetan Green Book that states that I am a bonafide Tibetan residing in Nepal.

I am currently in United States and just finished my MBA and am going back to Nepal and travel South East Asia. I am planning on going to Canada around January and probably apply for Asylum. My parents friends are already there and are willing to host me as they have already become a citizen through Asylum.

So my question is what is the timeline for Asylum? I know I can apply for Asylum but is Express Entry better for me?

Thanks

You would require a visitor visa to Canada in order to come here and claim asylum. Do you have an approved visitor visa?

It may be difficult to convince Canada you are a real refugee if you were in the US and completed your studies there, didn't claim refugee status there and then willingly returned home.

Express Entry would be a better option if you qualify.

Yes, I do have Canada Visa. I didn't want to claim Asylum in US because I had academic scholarship so I didn't want to jeopardize free education.

If you have valid TRV visa come to Canada and then you either apply for Express entry (usually within 6 months) or apply for asylum, which could take up to 2-3 years and you must have compiling reasons for claiming asylum. If I were you, I would not go back-home then come to Canada if you’re planning on applying right away.

Good luck
