My husband is from Costa Rica and we're waiting for his PR. I just received a call from Guatemala today saying that he has to go to San Jose by April 19th to pick up a correspondence.

Does anyone know if they call or send mail requesting the passport?

We applied in October and I was approved Nov. 17, 2010 to be his sponsor. We're just super anxious and he won't find anything out till they are open Monday morning when he arrives!! Just posting to keep my sanity!

Thanks

Hello I am new here and I finally found a thread for the Guatemala office :) I am a canadian citizen and I am sponsoring my husband since October 2010, he is from Costa Rica and at the moment I am with him here waiting for him to get his PR.. I recently recieved a letter March 2011 through my representative and an email stating that they want for my husband to send his passport, police certificate and Permenant resident fee. They never asked why or for what, so am wondering is he going to get a visa stamp on his passport. If anyone can let me know and as well how long can this take
Thank Alex :)

Hey! We won't know till Monday when he heads to San Jose to pick up the 'correspondence'. Not sure what it it yet. I'm hoping it's the request for his passport and not a criminal record check request for Canada.

Did he live in Canada for 6 months or more? If so then he will most likely need one, my hubby did and it set us back a whole year...no joke. Hopefully your's doesn't need one...keep us updated!

Hello Amber Rojas
Well as Ms Casanova said, he wont need to bring a criminal record check if he hasn't lived in Canada for longer than 6 months.
Check on the embassy hours, since is easter week

All the best and keep us posted

We checked the hours and we're good to go. He was in canada for 5.5 months. Friends of ours didn't submit a check for Mexico as they were only there for 5 months and then later it was requested. Hopefully it won't be that! He did receive an email but it was the same as my phone call...just notifying him that he needed to pick something up.

hey guys, so my wifes medicals expire on july 15.... just want to know what your guys input is on re-doing her medicals again? or should I just wait it out until they request them? what would be a good idea? the reason I am thinking of doing this is because this VO is so slow... let me know what you guys think please!

My husband's medicals are due in June so I understand your worry. I have read you should wait until they request you to redo them since it could be like MrsCasanova where if you redid them you would just have to redo them again and they are not cheap. They have had that passport for over a year. We just sent our passport but Guatemala is notorious for being extremely slow.
We have decided to wait until we hear back from Guatemala before we redo them.

Just to clairify our situation, my husband only re did his medicals once. What happened was they already had his meds, they requested his passport and rcmp criminal record check, the rcmp lost his request, waited like 9 months before we got our MP to figure out what was wrong, it took another 4 months to get the criminal record check (a year total) and by then the meds were expired and they asked him to re do them. Now they have his passport again and we are waiting for them to process his medicals.

Dammm with all theses stories it sounds like this vo is extremely slow, NOT GOOD, I just hope that everyone is this forum gets their spouses sponsorship asap these waitng times are ricidiculousy long.... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

An update!

This morning, I was sooooo frustrated! My husband got to the consulate in San Jose (as requested for today) and when he arrived at 7:30 in the morning, they said that there was nothing for him. He had missed work and traveled several hours. They said come back at 2...so he waited around! When he went back, they had an envelope for him and it was the request for his passport!!!! WOOOHOOOOO! Also, a request for another one of our marriage certificates because those silly timbres were covering like 3 words or something ridiculous and they need a new one. That's easy...I just have to re scan it! In 4 days Guatemala should have hiss passport and soon the marriage papers! I'm hoping we don't have to wait much longer! I'm going in June for two weeks to visit him and praying that I can being back a Tico souvenir!!!!!

Applied in October and MAYBE he'll be here in June!

I hope for you that it will be quick, but, as a matter of fact, they asked us the original certificate of marriage + original passeport + more prooves + a lot of other stuff in febuary of 2010 (we are in the procedures since jan. 2010), and then they did not check the papers before septembre 2010, asking us for another paper, so my husband had to re-do his medicals + re-do passeport (se iba a vencer en abril 2011), + send the damn paper they were asking us (we send everything 3 weeks ago), which means that they asked for the papers last year and we have been waiting for 15 months now and still no answer.. and we are married + we have a 6 months old baby!!! I'm in Canada now and he is in Nica, I had to stay cuz they had to operate our baby (anyway long story). Sooooooooooo I really wish that they will give you an answer quick, but just keep in mind that these guys are VERY slow so don't plan your life too much, just follow the rythm and cross the fingers!!!

Good luck though!
