Hi there...
Many thanks for all the helpful replies, I logged on to ECAS this evening and found that it had been updated, the Permanent Residence application was received on Feb 2nd 2011, and medical results have been received.
Hopefully things will move on at a good speed from now on !

All the best getting your passport returned to you.
What I was trying to say patiently is that although I'm complaining about not having a passport at least I have my PPR and was trying to be polite about it, so as not to rub in my whinging about the amount of time taken to return my passport, as I am luckier than some people right now, and was thinking of you guys worrying about PPR, while all I'm worrying about is getting my passport back.
I think I was adhering to the correct etiquette in these circumstances, in attempting to reduce the emphasis of my concern due to the fact that a lot of others had much bigger concerns regarding their whole application.
