50 days!!! Crikey! Mississauga is on the ball!

Congrats to the lucky people... but I'm so jealous!

If they emailed you, you might be able to just email the receipt back to them... not sure what others have done.

Wow 50 days that awesome too. Especially coming into this and it said it would be 11 months . Hoping that decision made def means that it's all good and they are not just sending everything back lol this is me of course trying not to get my hopes up.....looking out for mail man lol

Well congrats! Can't really help feeling really jealous right now of these short decisions! I think I really have to stop looking at the spreadsheet, just makes me feel a tad frustrated...!

Special thanks though to SchnookoLoly and the rest of the crew, you're doing an amazing job. I'm a total spreadsheet freak myself so I have to admit it's really awesome!

So a question... how soon before the expiration of my meds should I contact CIC? And should I ask them to extend them or what?

Email them roughly 4 weeks before the expiry. Just say your medicals are expiring so you're wondering if it's being extended, or if you should book a new medical. They'll let you know what they want you to do.

It would be nice if you would add your information to the spreadsheet. It's a nice way to say thanks for asking for advice on here. The more data on the spreadsheet, the more accurate it becomes. So if you could provide your info for the spreadsheet, it would be appreciated.

To answer your questions anyway (and it would be nice if you posted your info in return):

1: There's no set structure for the interview. They will ask a lot of what was included in your application, and will be looking for any inconsistencies. Just be honest and truthful. It's best if you are both at the interview, and if you want, bring any additional evidence you have of your relationship and your intention to stay in Canada with you. They may not need it, but better to have it and not need it than to be asked for it and not have it.

2: She can go get a SIN after she lands as a PR.

3: Same as #1.

I truly appreciate your assistance and apologize for not sharing my information from the beginning -- I had my reasons however now that the process is completed here is the information that you can add to the Spreadsheet ...

Application Received in Mississauga: March 6, 2014
Common Law/Married: Married
Sponsor Approval: April 3, 2014
Processing Office: London, UK
"In Process on ECAS": October 1, 2014
Extra Docs/Medical Required: No
Decision Made: November 12, 2014 (Interview in Calgary @ Immigration Services)

On Wednesday I accompanied my wife to the Immigration Services office in Calgary for the final process of the Permanent Residence Application -- I thought they might interview us and ask questions, however after checking in at the desk and waiting for 25-30 minutes they called my wife forward to the desk and the woman just had my wife sign 2 documents and look over her information. She was approved and informed the PR Card should be received within a month -- I will also be applying for a SIN card so she can begin working.

I appreciate the assistance from everyone and wish everyone the best of luck with their applications.

On a side note, I just read that a few applications were approved in 50 & 62 days.. I feel like this shows how ridiculous the current system is -- the people who applied earlier have every right to be disappointed in CIC and the way they conduct business. Canada makes it extremely hard for individuals to move to this country and attempt to be successful, while putting their significant others under a tremendous amount of stress (both financially and mentally) ... anyways, thats just my opinion and I feel like the Immigration Process will only get worse before it gets any better.

Woohoo, lots of updates and additions! My inner nerd is pleased. Here we go. Please everyone double-check your lines to make sure it's all accurate!

Awesome, added you! Thanks for sharing your info. :)

As for the comment about different processing times... CIC is purposely keeping applications OUT of London right now, because London is dealing with the overflow of applications from Pakistan. In order to stop a massive backlog in London, more recent applications are being held in MIssissauga or sent to Ottawa, instead of being forwarded to London and adding to their workload. 50 and 64 days is exceptionally fast, yes, I would agree with that. However, appreciate the reason why they are doing it - they are doing it so that people DON'T have to wait for London to work things out. It's actually a proactive step. It doesn't make sense to send applications from London BACK to Mississauga or Ottawa, that's an extra expense, and in a lot of cases London will have started some parts of the application, like security checks or whatever.

Also keep in mind that Canada's spousal program is actually one of the most straight-forward. It's significantly harder for the US, and I believe the UK has some other restrictions about the amount of time a spouse can be on a dependent visa and such (I don't know all the details). The spousal class has no minimum income requirement, no medical requirement (the medical you do is just screening for particularly contagious diseases like TB and HIV and so on), no language requirement, and honestly, less than one year for processing is pretty impressive when you consider that other streams to PR take years. These things can't happen overnight - Canada is giving someone PR simply because they have a Canadian spouse, but Canada will still do its due diligence to check that all is in order before handing out PR, which almost invariably turns into citizenship for spouses. So maybe lay off a bit and appreciate how easy you have it in comparison to others (and in particular, those from visa-exempt countries where the wait times are well over two years and multiple medicals and interviews are often requested).

You are absolutely right. This year, I had to apply for a spousal visa here in the UK (while my husband is finishing his PhD, before we move back to Canada). The process was A LOT more complicated. The questionnaires aren't straightforward, the financial requirements are very hard to meet (unless, like me, the applicant is already in the UK on another visa and can therefore add their income to their partner's).

There is however one thing that the UK does very well, and I have always wondered why Canada doesn't. In the UK, you can apply for same-day service for your spousal visa (and, I believe, most other visas). 95% of decisions are then made there and then. It cost considerably more money to do so, but I still think it was worth it for our sanity in the end. Why not do this here? It would bring in additional revenues, cut down postal costs and speed up the process for a lot of applicants...

Just a visa to visit though is different than applying for full-on PR... if you were going straight to "spousal ILR" I suspect that would be a much different story!

May I add that I am disillusioned with CIC. Applying for Canadian permanent residency is not something that you take likely. We all spend months preparing to submit our application, and of course we all want a quick decision, but at the end of the day, no matter how strong an application is, how genuine the relationship is, how long you have been with your common law or spouse, it comes down to where your application is sent. I mean really? This is a government process and as such I feel it should be standardized in a way that applicants across the world get processed in around about the same timeline. How can people receive PR when they only applied in September 2014, while there are people who applied in January 2014 or even in 2013 still waiting?

What's worse is it is very clear that Mississauga and Ottawa are going a lot faster than London, and yet there are still applications being sent to London albeit few and far between. The only comfort that is told to London based applicants? "Oh that is weird, most UK based applications stay in Mississauga." Yeah thanks for that.

Anyway, that is my opinion,

From a disillusioned London applicant.
