Hey Sweden, is it worth me emailing London to see if they have my application or is it pointless and I might as well just sit tight and wait?

Cheers :)

If you're only asking them if they have your application, they might not answer ( however some people have had answers from London)... if you have a question related to your application, then they might answer, and confirm at the same time that they have your application... you can always try your luck!
If your ecas is working and it says "medicals have been received", chances are that London has your application and there is nothing to do, apart from waiting for ecas to turn into DM... it should be coming close to your date soon...
Good luck!

Nothing from London for anyone?

The spreadsheet seems totally dead.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does DM stand for? (apart from my initials!)

Decision Made! :-) the famous 2 words that everybody is dreaming to see on ecas, as (unless there is something difficult in your application) it usually means that your visa has been issued and the COPR is on its way... the end of the tunnel sort of!
Good luck !

Apparently the IEC category opened in January, so that is probably why it has been so quiet...not sure how long this will last for

Hello!
My Scottish boyfriend and I are looking to apply for the common law visa as soon as possible. We have lived together for roughly 2.5 years (2 in Scotland, 6 months in Canada for far).

He is currently on a one year visa (expires in September), so are we meant to apply Outland? Considering the lengthy processing times, would he be required to go home for however many months past September this application process goes for?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello ghunter! One of the more senior members may correct me on this one, but I think, if your partner is already there and has a visa up until september, you should apply for inland. That way, if your partner also sends off an Open Work Permit application at the same time, he should get his permit in time for september and can continue working! The whole process will take longer, but it shouldn't matter too much and as your application is processing your partner has "Implied Status" meaning no need for him to head back to Caledonia! Of course, there are downsides to this. The biggest one being that there is no right of appeal for an inland application! So you'll have to make sure your case is watertight! Did you have any plans to get married at all?

Also ghunter,

Congratulations on getting with a Scotsman. You've made a wise choice.

Ecas wasn't recognising either my file number or UCI number.. I had a little panic but seems others having problems too. Hopefully it's all fixed tomorrow! Being home is really taking my mind off the endless waiting! Here's hoping we start hearing something soon. Seems they are doing nothing at the moment!

I know right? It seemed so hopeful for a while! Everything hurrying along. Now it's as gridlocked as the Gardiner. How's the weather in Eire?

Hey!

Welcome to the forum! I suggest you read the first post from Leon called "spousal sponsorship" - no the whole thread, just the first page - it will give you an idea.
But in general: you can choose to apply inland, or outland. Even if you are in Canada, you don't have to apply inland, and there are very few advantages for visa-exempt nationals to applying inland.
What type of visa is your partner on? If it's an IEC, he won't be able to work even if he applies inland, as you only get implied status if you have a visa that is extendable.
Most likely, unless you have some special circumstances, your best bet is to apply outland. Stage 1 is pretty quick, ( it says 55 days on the website but a lot of people are done much faster than that), and London is a bit unpredictable. 80% of cases are done in 9 months, but quite a few are done a lot faster than that.
Depending on how far on your application you are ( I take it tht you haven't started), it can take somewhere between 2 to 4 weeks to get everything together. You still have plenty of time, and might be done in September already. If the PR has not come through by the time your bf's visa expires, he can apply for a change of status, and go from a working visa, to a visitor visa - he won't be allowed to work, and won't be covered for healthcare in a lot of provinces, but he can stay in Canada and wait for the PR to come through.

Inland : doesn't really make sense for you because he can stay on a visitor visa no matter what, he won't get an extension on his work permit, it will take more time, and he is also not allowed to leave Canada for the whole length of the application ( currently 14 months). So outland is probably the way to go.
Good luck,
Sweden

I seriously don't know what they've been doing the past few weeks. It's very frustrating!

Oh same old, rain, clouds, cold! With a hint of sunshine every now & again! But it's good to be back!

Wow. Lack of movement in London is depressing.

How about a game of 'I Spy' to pass the time? :P

Sounds good Korma.

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with NDM.
