Hi

My advice is that there is no such thing as a Canadian PR "lite" application. The authorities wave through the no brainers - (like married 10 years with eight children!) but focus most on those just over twelve months (obviously a scammer is most likely to just have the minimum|) and those lacking hard evidence AND ongoing / future commitment to each other and/or Canada - the last applies to the sponsor too.

So anything you can do to show that you are committed to each other and intend to live in Canada - whatever the cost, would be in your interests.

As you can read on these blogs, 99% of people are desperate to live (with their partners) in Canada.

Hope this helps a little.
Thanks!

We def are desperate to live in Canada!! We have been living together well over a year now but for the first 6 months we were not paying anything as we were living with family in the UK. It's just sooooo very stressfull!! We have tried searching for jobs to get a work offer but Canadians will be considered first for teaching jobs so that has not been looking positive, he doesnt apply under the skilled worker or youth mobility so this just seems like the best option.

We would like to move ASAP!! when the visa is finalized we plan on coming back to Canada where my parents have allready agreed to have us live with them.

How much does it all end up costing at the end with application finalized? We have started putting the portfolio together so want to include everything we can!!!

thanks

grusich.309 - Your situation sounds similiar to mine. My boyfriend and I have been together since feb09. We lived together in england for 12months and we've been living here together in canada with his parents for the past 6m.

We applied common law outland in decemeber, and have just received an email saying that we hadnt provided enough information of our cohabitation, which is what defines the common law catagory.

In our application, along with tons of stuff to verify our relationship (which isnt the problem, its the proof of living together that they are disputing) we sent the CIC rental agreements signed by us both, council tax bills in joint names, letters addressed to us individually at the same address, a letter from our landlord, from my mother and his father saying we lived together and shared financial responsibility etc etc and this hasnt been enough.

We thought we had enough proof to validate our cohabitation, I mean, the rental contract alone clearly states this. I can only assume they are extra suspicious because our only solid proof just covers the required year. We are living together here in Canada but as it is with his parents theres no contract for that. Although we did send them confirmation it in writing, and we have joint bank accounts here and letters addressed to us both. But CIC have not accepted it as enough.

My advice to you would be to keep a very sound paper trail of everything you have, anything that shows commitment to each other. And anything that shows that you both contribute financially, however trivial it might seem. Get joint bank accounts, name each other in wills. Have more letters than you would think necessary from family and friends and get as many of them as you can afford as an affidavit.

To give you an idea of timescale, Our application was received in London after my partner was approved as a sponsor on 2nd feb 2011...and it took them until 18th April to email me saying we hadnt provided enough proof of cohabitation. We've been to the solicitors to have some documents verified but we just don't have anything else :( Sent all that off yesterday and now I'm back to the waiting game.

It's cost a bloody arm and a leg too. I would say if your going to see a solicitor for affidavits or notaries do it in the UK, rather than in Canada too as their services seem much more expensive in Canada. Or maybe it's just because I'm on Vancouver Island and there not very competitive.

Basically what I'm trying to say is don't send it all until you have tons of evidence!! And if you and your boyfriend are planning to live in Canada together while your waiting for your app (him as a visitor) unless you're in a great financial position and he likes not being able to work (I find it thoroughly depressing and my self worth is at rock bottom) I would reconsider, and stay in the UK as long as possible while your application is being processed.

:eek: :eek: :eek: ;D ;D ;D OMG my husband finally got his PPR ..I cant believe after all this time its finally come true!!

I have a couple of questions tho ...My husband went to put in his File Number in ECAS and it says it should start with a B and 9 numbers to follow. His File number starts with an F and 9 numbers that follow and he cant log into ECAS with his information. Also, on the request for his passport it states "Unless your passport or the passport of one of your accompanying family members (if any) expires on an earlier date, your permanent resident visa(s) will all expire on 2011/09/07." Is that date July 9, 2011 or is that Sept 7, 2011 and does that mean he has to be in Canada by that date or does he have til that date to turn in his passport ...

hi shykitten,

congrats, this really is a good news means london office is pretty much alive :D hoping a speedy process for others too!

normally PR visa expiry dats is the expiry date of medicals or Passport ( whichever is expiring first) as i can see from your timeline it definitely is the date when his medical is expiring, (i assume its september the 7th if you have used UK format to put in the dates)
and yes this is the date before or on your husband has to land in Canada!

hope this helps

Great news you're at this stage. You must both feel so happy.

I can login with both mine and my wife's client ID. I was assigned mine when I got a visitor permit extension a couple of years back, hence I have a file already. Not sure if that makes a difference but the status of our case is available through both of our IDs. Neither of our IDs have any letters in them, just numbers.

Does anybody know, of a place in the UK, my husband can get his permanent resident photos done ...they have to be done very specifically and on matte paper and so far he has only found places that will do them on glossy paper.

The two photographs must:

- have a plain white background;
- be produced on single weight matte paper;
- measure between 25mm and 30mm (1" and 1
1/5") from chin to crown
- have a finished size of 35mm x 45mm (1 3/8"
and 1 3/4")
