Hi Guys,

I sent an email for an update on my file and I just got this email from the VO:

Dear Ms. McCloskey,

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

Please be advised that your application has been reviewed by an Immigration Officer. A criminality check has been initiated with the RCMP and once the results have been received we will be in a position to finalise your application.

I hope this information is of assistance.

Yours sincerely,

ACD

Does this mean I'm getting close to a decision made? I really hope so!! Although I sent in a criminal check with my application, so is this just standard procedure that they would still look it it?

Feedback appreciated! thanks

I am not sure but 'finalise' does sound you are close,Ill wait for the experts to answer!

I have also emailed the london VO on an update for my file, but no reply :( May I please ask when you emailed them?

Yes, it seems like they just need the results from the criminal check and then they can issue your visa. :)

Fingers crossed! On ecas it's still showing "Application received" so I wasn't sure if they had even looked at it yet. Hopefully this will be a good sign for anyone else who is showing that also. They could be working on it and just haven't updated it!

that's common - quite a few people here (me included) went from Application received to Decision Made without any update on ecas in the middle. it definitely looks like you're close to completion - if you haven't committed any crime in Canada :) you should be done soon!

Happy to report I'm Crime free! :D Hopefully the end is near! I'm just hoping I get PR and not Conditional PR, I've been with my partner for over 2 years and we had proof of living together since May 2011, so that should be enough right? I just can't imagine having to apply all over again and go through this same thing in 2 years time!

What? Is that what you have to do with a conditional?? (I will be a conditional)....

Yes as far as I know, my understanding of it is you get conditional PR if you have been been with your spouse or partner for 2 years or less and do not have any children together. In my case we have been together 2 and a half years and living together 2 years and 4 months so I'm hoping that I won't get conditional. Anyone else been in the same position?

No. Conditional only means that you must live together for 2 years after getting the PR. This prevents fraudulent people from using sponsors to get into Canada and then leave them after arriving.

"Conditional permanent residence does not differ from regular permanent residence other than the need to satisfy the two-year requirement." from CIC web page.

How would they know that you had stayed together for the 2 years though, wouldn't you have to re-apply and send in all the proof again? to get another visa? That's the part I'm unclear over.

Don't worry about it. It's in the legislation so that they can, if they detect that the condition has not been complied with, remove the sponsored party. Before the legislation change, they had to prove misrepresentation. It will make NO difference to anyone that complies with the requirements even if they have the conditional clause on their COPR.

Having said that, London has on at least one occasion incorrectly inserted the condition on the COPR when it wasn't applicable, for which they have apologised.

Ok that makes way more sense now, I was thinking you would need to re-apply and send all the proof that you had stayed together during that time and that would be a huge pain! I understand why they have it in place, but I really just hope I get the PR, I can't wait until this process is behind me, I've never been so anxious in my entire life! Hopefully the end is in sight! :)

It is a very stressful process, even for those of us who have very simple, clear cut, applications.
Even then, CIC has managed to throw us two separate "curve balls" to mess things up, and we are still not out of the woods completely.

Of course, the really hard part starts now. How to move over 50 years of UK life over to Canada? Just packing up everything, redecorating to sell the house and then shipping everything will be an even bigger challenge.

That does sound like a lot of work! I only have few boxes of stuff in Finland that I want to bring to Canada but even that makes me stressed. I can't even imagine moving a whole household of stuff to another country. Best of luck with everything zardoz!!
