Thanks mitchy - I've sent them a CSE :). Whether or not I'll receive a response remains to be seen! Hopefully I'll be good, but if I don't hear anything by the end of next week I'll just apply for an extension anyway.

Even though I knew how highly unlikely it was anything would arrive today, I ended up checking for mail about 5 times this morning. So it begins... lol.

Yeh in 2004 you could get 2.5 to 1. However, as someone who now lives in Canada and gets paid in Canadian dollars I am happy to see the Canadian dollar flourish against the pound - in fact I think it should move to 1:1 ;D
I remember those good ole days. I used to feel I could have bought and sold, even though I was on a fairly average UK salary back then. This is mainly why we chose to settle in the UK. Not the case any more... UK wages haven't moved for years and the dollar gains almost $1 in value in the interim. Last year I felt like a pauper when we were in Toronto and Nova Scotia.

Whenever i hear of friends and family coming to the UK, I act as the bureau de change and we split the difference between buyers and sellers high street rates, which means everyone wins and I get some CAD$ at a better rate than anywhere commercially.

However it would be great if there was a bigger scale exchange which securely offered to match buyers and sellers of CAD$ like Betfair does for bets. As I have just sold a house in £ and am going to have to convert that to $ at some point it is a bad enough rate as it is without a middleman taking more points off me!

I also use this informal method with a friend of mine whose gf is on an IEC (he is just on a visitors visa) so is always transferring money to Canada. An informal but secure exchange system like this would be amazing...

Also on this subject, fwiw at the start of the year I was reading analysis that said investors/markets expect the GBP to CAD rate to be around 1.54-1.55 by the end of the year. This was before it dipped considerably (down to these values) in the first few months. So I'd say if you can get above 1.55 (like it is just now) take it! Obviously going from CAD to GBP the opposite applies - wait for it to dip below 1.55...

By the way guys, I went to "In Process" on March 26th. I still have to do my medical (and still waiting for my new UK passport to do that), so it's not a massive step but it's something.

That's good news. Real shame about the mishap with your passport.

My entire life is nothing but a sequence of sad, tragic mishaps. I'm used to disaster by now. :p

Hi everyone!

I need your help please! My wife lives in Norway and is not a visa exempt. We have filed our files since April 2012 and we finely got an interview requested. She has to travel to Sweden ! What I would really love to ask you is:

1) Since she does not speak English that well neither Swedish. Does anyone who lives in that area (Stockholm) knows how we could find a professional interpreter for Arabic person (English or Swedish to Arabic) ?

2) This is one of the most question asked around: what kind of Questions or info will be asked in such interview. My wife is so scared and so frustrated about what they will ask. Please if you have any idea to share with us, I will appreciate it !

Thanks!
Hiii I am in the exact same situation they asked meto bring an interpreter as well.. From Norwegian to Swedish in my case as my wife speaks Norwegian.. I have been looking inline for intrepreters.. No luck yet..
