Hi All!

Im English and my husband is Canadian and we are living in England currently, I cannot say how happy I am to have found this forum and hope you could help with my queries as Canadian EMbassy in London refuse to talk to us!!

I just wonder 2 things at the moment -
1) My husband has been in England since May 2010 - I was told he doesnt need to provide an Option C Tax printout coz he is living in England - is that right? does he need ot provide an English equivalent then?

2) What information do we need to provide to show he is definatley returning to Canada with me? We will be staying with his parents for the first while so have no real "proof" - we could maybe get a letter from his previous employer who said they may take him back on - would this suffice?

MAny thanks everyone in advance, I am so glad to have found possible answers :)

Anna ;D
Hi Anna, my husband has returned to Canada this year after 10 years here in the Uk, he didnt send in the option C as he hadnt earnt anything in Canada for the last 10 years and all he did was provide a letter explaining this, he is working now in Canada but only for the last couple of months, so he sent proof of his job/earnings and a letter explaining that he had not worked in Canada until the date he started work.

We are also are going to stay with his parents until we get our own place and had originaly got a letter from his parents stating that we are going to stay there with them, also show any job searches you have made, inquiries to rental places, if you have children show them inquiries or searches about schools. If your husband has proof of a bank account still in canada that might help. Anything really that can show your intention to return and ties to Canada. :)

Hi Anna - 1) my wife was working here since 2006, so she just submitted a copy of her latest P60 from April 2011, plus a short letter from her Employer stating that she'd been employed full time by them since 2006 and a signed declaration from her that she hadn't filed a Canadian tax return for several years.

2) we had no real "proof" either, so we got original signed letters from my wife's parents and her sister both independently offering us accommodation, plus a signed letter from a friend of mine in Canada confirming that he has been aware of our longstanding plans to relocate. We also submitted evidence of my wife looking for jobs in her home province of BC in the form of her covering letters and the emailed acknowledgements of receipt from those prospective employers. As it turns out she then got one of the jobs and has now left, so we've written the VO a letter showing that she's now already out there!

Hope that helps you :)

AnnaMcG - current processing times are 52 days for stage one in Mississauga (though due to be updated today) and 80% of applications being finalised in 8 months at London.
I have made a spreadsheet showing average processing times in London dating back a year. Its shows most are completed in half this time.
Good luck!

Hi PinkLady + MDSB,

Thanks for the information, I keep checking ECAS but nothing yet.
Is it true they don't always update the system?

Thanks

They don't always update it no. But usually will to say when the application was received in London.
Do you have a file number yet?
You can also log in using the receipt number and the sponsors details.

Hi Anna. Welcome to the forum :D

I am in a similar situation to yours except that I am the sponsor.

1)

When we submitted our application in May, I had no job offers or mortgage / rental agreements in Canada as we have no intention of quitting our jobs or selling our house until my husband gets his visa.

All I submitted as evidence that I am planning to return to Canada was a written timeline outlining ‘our reasonable plans' when we move to Canada and a letter signed by my parents confirming we could live with them while we look for employment and housing of our own. I was accepted as sponsor no problem.

I have heard of people printing off their internet browser history to show they have at been looking at job offers in Canada and looking for real estate listings.

Also on my sponsor form where it asks what date I plan to resume residency, I put a provisional date in, as I have no idea on the exact date I'll be returning to Canada, it all depends when we get my husband's visa. I have been advised by CIC that the date you put on the form is just that, a date. You don't have to be in Canada by the date you put on the form, but you will need to "land" in Canada with your spouse before the visa's expiry date (which is 1 year from the date of when the medical was done)

2)

As a Canadian sponsor living and working in the UK for the last 10 years, I could not and did not provide an Option C printout.

Instead, I included a photocopy of my ten P60's (2001-2011) and 12 monthly paystubs for last year (2010-2011). I also included a letter from my UK employer confirming my UK employment.

Hope this helps! :D

Hi Everyone, thanks so much for all your helpful replies!

As predicted I have another question about the sponsor's form:

As my husband is only sponsoring me, does he need to show a certain amount of income? I get the impression from the forms that he doesnt, its only if we were bringing along kids etc (its just me and him). So basically in number 19 of the supporting documents, we dont need to show any evidence of income?

Many thanks again all you wonderful people! ;D

For spousal sponsorship, there is no income requirement, even if you had kids, but your sponsor cannot be on welfare, and if he has no income at the moment, they may ask for proof that he can and will be able to support you in some way. :)

No, you don't need to demonstrate minimum financial requirements like you do with other classess of application. We did however submit screenshots of our savings and investment accounts and also my application to join my equivalent professional insitute in Canada, plus a formal assessment (IQAS) of the equivalence of my qualifications to Canadian ones in order to demonstrate that we would be self-sufficient and that I would be able to integrate readily into the Canadian workforce. This was all in relation to IMM5540, Q11. I think basically any reassurance you can provide them that you are not going to be likely to require any state benefit and will be able to make an independent living is going to help your application.

Hi PinkLady,

I am using the UCI number from the letter which was sent from Mississauga. Also to let you know, silly me got the date wrong. It was sent 19th July not 17th.

Thanks Morning!
