I am pondering over whether to send an email asking for the status, last 1 I sent was probably 3 weeks back and I finally got a FXXXXXX

nothing after that, problem is I dont have any grounds to poke them with other than blatantly asking them about the status on my file

In my recent email to them I asked for a status update and got the usual you are in process response

Got a letter in the mail today from my MP, said that our application is with immigration officer. Which I already knew!

Doesn't mean a thing. There's no reason for you to ever need both. (To be clear: For all we know, everyone gets both numbers now. But you only ever need to know one.) The B file number is what they typically give you. You won't need the F file number for anything if you already have the B number. It's NOT standard (or at least, didn't used to be) for them to give people F numbers. They seem to have started doing it more recently, but perhaps that is tied more into their ways of dealing with the backlog. Example: give all new files a preliminary F file number first, B later? It seems like, lately, the people getting the F numbers first are the ones who've asked Buffalo for file numbers early in the process, before Buffalo even gives them an official AOR with the B number.

I could be wrong about the numbers having to do with backlog or asking for file numbers before they're ready to give you one, but that's what I've gathered from the posts I've seen. It could also just be a product of their new computer system, i.e. perhaps more electronic filing now.

A nice theory, but our AOR (which was our first contact with Buffalo, even though we had updated passport photocopies to send) came with an F number. We have no knowledge of a B number that is or is not attached to our file.

I bet they issue the numbers somewhat randomly just to mess with our heads. There seems to be no other sense of "order" to this process.

Isn't it great that our elected representatives in government can state the obvious? Swear it's a skill they are lacking most days!

That aside, hopefully your file will get looked at soon. I try to believe that the squeaky wheel will get approved ;)

Congratulations Rinnerz! I hope mine is on its way back soon.
Congratulations Salsalvr and others who just received PPR. It`s so good to hear there's movement.
Congratulations Mommyk's husband! I hope that's true for the rest of us.

I have a Masters and 25+ years of work experience, but my French is only at intermediate level, so I'm truly fearful I won't find anything. I mean, I'll sack groceries if I have to, but I would hope to move forward in my career. Oh well....just the pre-landing jitters, I guess.

Good luck to all!

French is over-rated -- most decent-sized corporations, even in Quebec, will have English as their primary operating language. Don't worry... you'll do fine! :D

Yep, which is why I mentioned that my post was just based on what I had read at the time. ;) I certainly don't get to read every single post in this thread, though I've often tried to. It doesn't change the fact that people who have been initially given F file numbers were then, at some point (be it via CAIPS notes or PPR) shown to also have the normal B file number later on. But really, it's all just speculation fodder. A file number's a file number, at least so far as its usefulness for the applicant (eCAS, correspondence).

I am pleased to report that we just received PPR from Buffalo for my wife

Congrats Spiritrac!

I just looked at the email and noticed that they are asking to submit the passport by January 16 2010
