You need the title to the car. It would be better if you bought the car. Because you actually NEED the title in your hand, to import your car.

Thanks parker24.

I guess buffalo consulate is closed and applications are being tranfered, lol, :o ,

Yup, all the information can be found: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/us-outland-applicants-thread-t106068.0.html - links to the article on the closing.

For your information, I put my car (with VIN#) on the B4A form as a 'good to follow'. When I landed, custom officer didn't ask to see the title document at all. If you haven't decided whether you're going to buy it or not, you may want to consider putting it on the 'goods to follow' list.

I have a leased car in the usa that i am thinking of purchasing but haven't purchased it yet. Can i include that in the B4 form although its not technically mine yet. Also what would happen if i do mention it on the B4 form and then do not buy it. Would i have to pay a penalty for it?

More dumb questions...mailed my application on Friday (May 31).

Will CIC confirm receipt? How will they do this, via email or letter? What's does "AOR" stand for?

If you're lucky enough you will get an AOR (Acknowledgement of receipt) otherwise, you get nothing until stage one has been approved.. which sucks!

Thanks...I was going to guess AOR meant an "Application on Record" letter, so glad I wasn't too far off.

Only acknowledgement I received was I myself have been approved of a sponsor and they will now evaluate my spouse. (Short answer: No)

When I spoke to an agent back in march she told me new policy was for everyone to receive AOR...I was a "lucky one" as Parker said but clearly, and not surprisingly the agent was wrong as he second half of January applicants did not get AOR.

If you do get or awesome but don't stress waiting for it.... :)

Samething here.

Just an update on my file for anyone who is in a similar situation:

I emailed Buffalo since they have had my PP since May 3 and my medicals come up on a year on June 14. I received a generic response that indicated my file had probably been transfered to Detroit. I emailed Detroit and received another generic response, this time that said they only respond to emergency inquiries.

While there is no penalty if you include items on the B4 and then change your mind and don't end up importing them, the issue is that you must have owned, used, and possessed the items on your B4. In fact, the B4 (which you'll need to sign) states right above the signature box:

"Settler (Tariff item No. 9807.00.00)

I hereby declare that I have read and qualify for the provisions of tariff item
No. 9807.00.00 and that:

1.I am entering Canada with the intention of establishing, for the first time, a
permanent residence for a period in excess of 12 months and I arrived in
Canada on __________________ .
2.With the exception of wedding gifts, bride's trousseau, alcoholic beverages and
tobacco products described in the Tariff Item No. 9807.00.00 Exemption Order, all
household and personal effects imported or to be imported by me under this
tariff item have actually been owned, possessed, and used abroad by me prior to
the date of my arrival in Canada.

3.All goods imported are my personal or household property and they will not be used
in Canada for any commercial purpose.
4.If any item is sold or otherwise disposed of in Canada within 12 months of the
date of its importation, I will notify a CBSA Office of such fact and pay all duties
owing at the time.

Oh great. We are in the same boat. Those who have sent their passports to Buffalo recently, please update us and let us know when you get them back.
So now our passports are being held hostage and my husband can't travel or look for work till he gets his back. Lovely.

Hey guys, my husbands PP has been in Detroit since May 22/12.. with a landing date of June 13/12. we have emailed and got the generic response as well.. We still have not received anything back from Detroit... Very frustrating and nerve racking to say the least.

They gave you a landing date before they sent your COPR?

I really wish I had sent copies of my PP rather than the actual document. If they're going to take months to process my COPR, I'd like to at least be able to visit my husband. This has turned into a nightmare. :(
