It says about the canadian police records check. I still live in Canada (on a work permit till october 2011) I though I would be asked to supply one later, or not at all???

I just sent mine off last week, but I am curious about the Canadian police certificate point. I have been in Canada for the last year, but did not get one since they said it was not necessary and that they would ask you for one if you needed it. Were you asked to provide one? I somehow figured since it was Canada, they would do their own check if they deemed it necessary. Would you suggest ordering one now, just in case?

Hal you don't have to submit a Canadian one unless they request it at a later date.

My ecas started showing info (I could only use my husbands info to sign in) 1 month after we received the sponsorship approval letter. You have a while to wait I'm sorry to say. But you are coming from the UK so it may be different for you.

"they said it was not necessary," I've heard this before only for them to request it later in the process. I would order it now and keep it. If they don't ask for it, great. If they do, you just saved yourself 6 weeks of waiting for the RCMP to process your request. Your file does not do anything while you wait for the RCMP check. It's all about being prepared for what they throw at you. Some people even go as far as to order another FBI just in case Buffalo "misplaces" the one you sent (I've read at least 4 different posts where people have claimed that the (buffalo) visa office has lost their background check). FBI's can take 12-16 weeks. Personally I don't want any hold ups. "they would do their own check if they deemed it necessary." Some people do get requests for Canadian background checks, but not all. The Canadian government won't do the background check for you.

I just want to save people from making the same mistakes I did. It makes making those mistakes a bit easier to handle. Personal Message me by clicking my name if you have any more questions. I only check this thread every once in a while, so that's the best way. I don't have all the answers, but I can perhaps point you in the right direction or person to talk to. You get to know things when your on here for a while. Good luck October people. It's a long and stressful road, but you'll get there in the end.

Not sure where you are located but commissionaries have quite a few offices. There are other places as well but I can't recall the names.

How are results obtained and how long does it take?

The National Canadian Police Information Center can provide a fax or electronic copy of results to Commissionaires in as little as 48 hours after submission. Results can be obtained in person by the applicant by showing picture ID or they can be received by fax or sent to a third party if this is pre-arranged. The original copy of the results will be available about one week after submission.

Hey Hal I saw your post in the CEC. Is your spouse sponsoring you or are you doing a CEC application?

I was originally doing a CEC, however we decided to go this way (family sponsorship) ue to less time.

I plan to include some of the evidence I gathered for CEC anyways, to prove I am actually working, and even tho I am being sponsored, I support us rather than the other way around. Don't know wether that means anything.

Also shows how we are going to support ourselves later. She IS looking for work, but we moved from Winnipeg to London for me, not for her, and even tho she had a wonderful job, she gave it up to be with me.

(Yes I really love her).
