Do all MP's have that ability? In response to my email to the MP, I was asked to call someone in my MPs office. I thought he would be able to provide me with information, but he never offered to look into my file. He told me to call him in 3 months if we do not hear anything till then. Plus, without even looking into our file, he informed me that our file has not been opened yet due to a 3 month queue line from the time you are issued an AOR.
I honestly don't know, and suspect that each MP's office operates differently. I would suggest if possible you go there in person, I had previously called and emailed with little luck. However taking a day off work, and only taking about 15 minutes of my time, was WELL worth it.
I don't think my MP did anything, but obviously was able to contact CIC and get an update. I don't think it will change the application in any way, but simply knowing information is helpful. As I said, I live in an area that has a very high population of new immigrants, and their office deals with 80+% of immigration related questions, therefore I would suppose that they are more connected to CIC compared to some remote district in Manitoba.
