Yes, this is normal. The United States is like Australia in that you actually do need a visa even to visit. Normally it has to be done online, but because you crossed at a land crossing (as opposed to by air) you can do it when you get to the border. So yeah, that was all normal. The fingerprinting is normal as well, they've been doing that for years.

Yup. I'm on a kiwi passport and travel to the US very regularly by land as I live in Vancouver, and this is the usual process. If we're planning on traveling on say, the Friday evening of a long weekend when my previous 90 day period is already up, I'll often zap down to the border a day or two earlier at a time when the border isn't busy to get the I-94W (the green piece of cardboard). Saves up to 2 hours sometimes. Even if you have a valid ESTA from recent air travel they'll sometimes send you in for a manual I-94W anyway, sometimes they don't. They're transitioning SLOWLY to it all being ESTAs but there have been huge cut-backs in the US Customs and Border Patrol lately so border wait times and processing times are blowing out big time.

I sent my scanned PDF's back last week on the 26th, haven't heard back from them re receipt. I am guessing there won't be one.

A general question, will I receive both an email and post mail when I receive COPR? I selected regular post so I am guessing it may take a little longer.

I didn't receive an acknowledgement either, I guess we won't hear anything back until we get the piece of paper in the mail.

I received an email 2 weeks ago requesting a new IMM5669 form to be completed. There was a problem with 2 questions. A typo in one of the dates on one, and on the other the problem was missing time in my list of addresses. The last address I listed was my Australian residence (until the date I left for Canada). I wasn't sure if I could claim I was actually 'living' in Canada for the past 16 months, instead of just visiting, so I didn't. I've now put the Canadian address down in the new version. Hopefully this will be ok.

It took almost 2 weeks to receive a confirmation email saying "Thank you for your email. The information you have provided will be attached to your file and referred to a visa office (as applicable) in due course." I received this from the Sydney office email address - so the part about being referred to a visa office is confusing. Aren't they the relevant visa office?! Oh well. I guess nothing to be done except wait, again!

We received COPR today (5th April) by mail only - but I sent in my husband's passport photocopies by ExpressPost mail, so not sure how COPR would have been returned had I scanned and emailed everything. It was really quick as I only sent off the photocopies on the 28th of March, and it was the long weekend, but I also enclosed an ExpressPost envelope so that everything could be returned quickly so I think that definitely made a difference.

Total time for our visa processing: approx 6 months: Stage 1 AOR was 12th October 2012 and COPR was officially 3 April 2013.

Good luck to everyone still waiting, and best wishes for your future in Canada!

Thanks for your post! Its so helpful (and encouraging!) to hear about other experiences. Are you on the spreadsheet? I don't know about others but I watch that a lot to see trends in Sydney. Helps me to feel like something is happening during the looooong wait.

Guys, a question, is the "sponsorship approval" email is different from the email with file number?

I submitted my application Feb 26, got the file number very next week, haven't got anything after that.
