@Goodiesville congrats!!! :D
My guess would be 2 weeks - a month; however, this is based on my observation of others timeline. You never really know with AVO, unfortunately. I hope it's not too much of a wait for you!

Question for you: what was your status prior to 'Processing Background Check' ? I thought 'Processing Background Check' was standard for all applicants until completed.
Under background check my account says this:
  • Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check.

Really? Then they have been 'processing' our background check since Mar 2021. Hopefully my spouse won't have to resubmit a new PCC - his current PCC expires June 30, 2021.

@LeaAmbrose do you mean 'final decision' or 'background check' ? - they are two separate lines. Under 'final decision' it states 'application in progress.' however, under 'background check' it states 'we are processing your background check.' The font shared that their background check updated to 'processing' on Jun 14. I was under the impression that 'we are processing your background check' was standard for applicants until background check was completed, and based on my research when background check is completed it's updated to 'Not applicable' - I don't know how true that is though.

Honestly I think it is different for many. It isn’t always indicative of what is actually going on. I have a TRV application open and a Spousal Sponsorship PR application open. Under the TRV where it says Background Check it says
  • We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.

As for the Permanent Residency side says what I posted earlier. Eligibility is the opposite. Under TRV it is saying they will send us a message when they begin looking at the eligibility while on our other application is says
  • We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.

I don’t think the GCKey accounts are always factual or up to date.

Ahhh, okay. Thanks for clarifying!

Police report, forms etc.
Oh okay. Were you able to track it, to confirm it they received it? I'm sure they did, and it's just a waiting game.

When I sent my CSQ (as a Québec applicant this is an extra step) via webform, I received a confirmation that they received the email, but not much else. It took them 4 days to respond.

Depends on country. It must be a legally-valid wedding in the country where performed, at minimum. (Some additional complications for certain countries.)

In a lot of countries, a religious marriage would have to be registered with civil authorities, and that would be part of documentation. But check the country-specific requirements.
Thank you for your response, when I tried checking for more information on Nigeria, I don't get anything.

As first step check the laws in Nigeria. From my quick check marriages mist he registered with the civil authorities in Nigeria. How is this done? Well, check Nigerian sources.

But I don't think a purely religious marriage without the license and registration would be considered valid in Nigeria.

You need the registry wedding in Nigeria for it to be considered a legal marriage for Canada.
Here is the website which lists the marriage registries:
https://ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng/marriage/registries
Look up the different options there and spend time learning about how it works and what the cost is, etc. There is a lot of information online.

Yes true like @armoured said. Once it's legally valid within the country it should be okay.

From my knowledge, most of these religious institutions organising the wedding do have registrant affiliations and links whereby personnels from the registry offices or court attend the religious events to provide the certificate. I think you could also confirm from your religious institution about the certificate. I don't think the religious body can initiate or provide a certificate which won't be legally valid or recognised. You would be fine I think but please do consent the religious body and worse case scenario consent the registry body and they could attend your religious wedding to witness and get that certificate.

Good luck to you and congrats in advance.

Thank you . We are anticipating a month. Hopefully, it won't be longer.

The background check status was:
Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check.

Then it changed to:
We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.
