Hello All - Slight off topic. We am PR holders and our daughter ( US citizen) will accompany us to Canada as visitor. We will be settling down in Ontario and will sponsor her PR soon after moving.

Question: Do we need to get private insurance for her until she gets her PR ( 10 months) OR would she be eligible for OHIP coverage after 3 months of stay just like us?

When I was in Canada as a dependent of my parents, I qualified for OHIP until I turned 19 and was no longer a dependent child of theirs. I had to purchase private coverage through my university for the last four years. I have had temporary student status the whole time so I imagine it would be similar to a visitor.

I received my GCMS notes and it looks like my application is being kept in Mississauga as part of the "Back Office Pilot Program" - after reading up on this, it appears to be the process for non-complex family class applications. Has anyone else had this? If so, I'd love to know your timeline.

My AOR was January 2018, SA January 2018, medical passed March 2018. According to my notes, eligibility review hasn't started and the only thing that's done is my medical and RCMP screening (passed April 20, 2018). Criminality and Security not started.

Its a looong pause after medical test :) when PPR will come !! waiting
and this week application processing time will complete 10 months !!

Oh... I thought you'd have already got your PPR. :(
Maybe next week, if not yet arrived, you can raise a case specific inquiry and see what they say ...

Update on my child's sponsorship application.

AOR received on 9th June 2018
Application package sent on 4th May 2018

Was able to link the application online on 3rd attempt. I used application number\UCI and place of birth options.

I am the child and I am 22! (applied at 21) and my application was held in Mississauga as it was very straightforward.
Congrats truocloh.

Hello All - anyone have any luck or at least attempted to sponsor a non-dependent child? I have a daughter who is 23 living in the U.S. I have suspected for a while now that she is on the autism spectrum but she is not diagnosed. She came with me to Canada when she was 18 and we applied for PR for her before the new rules set in but the application was rejected because we didn't have proof of English proficiency. (This was the only thing missing from the application.) Then the 19 year old rules kicked in and she went back to the U.S. to go to school, but dropped out due to a domestic violence situation. I am a U.S. citizen with Permanent Residency married to a Canadian citizen. Is there any way we can sponsor her now that she's 23? Is it worth trying through the PNP (we are in B.C.)?

Hi there,

My husband is hoping to sponsor his dependant child within the next month. Now she has a TRV and will be visiting Canada for the Summer. We were thinking of doing an inland application vs the outland application as we've heard its shorter processing times. Now If we send the the inland application in before she lands here on her TRV, will that be okay? Or should we wait until she's here and then send it in afterwards? We just want to get this done as soon as we can.

Dependent child applications can only be processed outland, there is no option to apply inland. However, if your application is straightforward and non-complex, it is possible that CPC Mississauga will retain your application without sending it to your home country. You can apply with the child in Canada as long as you maintain valid status for them in Canada throughout the application process!

Hi Jailika...
Dont Worry.
It may NOT be what you are thinking. There's a London in Canada too. :) ... They have an IRCC office there. You can PM me if you have some specifics. I can, more than happy, answer them.
