i wanted to share this opinion (Absolutely mine) since morning, before i read anubhav s post.
if i have to advise my closest friend or anyone about where to land etc etc
i d say.........
choose Toronto area.
why?
better weather conditions, better opportunities to learn and study, more Life (people)..........and after a little longer struggle, than the colder cities, money will also come.
if you are a CA or have strong background in Accounting, go anywhere, as you may get a relevant job....sooner.
foremost thing, we shud take care of is--- we need to settle down in the new environment.........culture.........new people.
we indians are habitual of living with people around, and cities other than Toronto, V'couver go almost empty after 7-8 pm.
on weekends or after your work,
you would yearn for company, and people to talk to.
(a fact, people in Toronto are harder to approach initially, than people in Alberta)
then you might realize, did i come here for money only?
i m sharing my opinions.
i prefer better life, over more money.
moreover,
our skin is not meant for -20/-30 degrees for 6 months per year.
toronto offers -0 to -10 for 4 months only.
if u r coming for money, goto places where -30 is or be a cab or truck driver, you will definitely earn more than others.
there are several cities where u can go, live in snow, away from a society, and earn more than Torontonians!
colder cities will offer you more money, but lesser Life!
and regarding the less taxes, just don t care about it.
it hardly matters, or it will hardly matter in 1-2 yrs down the line.
13 % or 5 %, these figures looks substantial, but if you ll count your expenses, it won t matter much.
im single, my monthly expenses :
on meals are $ 200 (Toronto govt. does return almost all the GST , till u earn high)
rent 600, and 200 (Transport pass and mobile), rest on leisure 100.
if u need better life, a society around, choose GTA or V'couver.
choose a place where you know someone, if u dont, then opt for any place.
give 1-2 yrs time to yourself to study further, take study loans, add Canadian credentials on your resume.
level of education here is superb. much ahead.
suppose you get a clerical job in 4-12 weeks time of landing, the future career horizon for you will remain narrow, you may reach to $ 50-60000 p.a. in 2-4 yrs.
however, if u ll study in the first year of landing, the horizon shall broaden for long term.
although you will not earn or save for the initial year.
everybody is bound to settle down well, in 2-4 years time.
money is bound to come, sooner or later.
if u r dedicated to form a career.
you can definitely move to other cities, if you are not satisfied by the city you land in and the stay therein
for 6 months or 1 winter season.
the choice is absolutely 'yours'.
trust me, there is no city which can offer, even half than what Toronto has to offer.
yes, it is the most competent and toughest city to earn money.
as you have to fight with the ''crème de la crème''.
so i have decided to give this city an year at least!
rest, God (inner self) is always there to ask for guidance!
