First of all, I would like to thank hmisabpk for all his time and effort spent on helping all of us with millions of questions. I've spent the past few days just reading your posts and I'm amazed that you still still have the energy to bother with us even you've arrived in Canada two and half years ago and, probably, are not interested in this things anymore..
I need your oppinion:
My husband is a industrial electrician with 20 years of experience. The idea is that he should go to Canada on a tourist visa and complete an electrician trade certificate (after two month exam preparations on the local college), it will take about three months, all together. Then he can apply for FSTC (from our homecountry) and we can all go to Canada together and start looking for jobs.
1. They announced the beginning for the FSTC as of January 2nd, but I can't find any information about that. On CIC website doesn't even exist the document check list for this program, or any other instructions, apart from the announcement.
2. We were checking a lot of job adds for electricians and they all demand this certificate, so this is the only way to obtain it, because the other condition is to have a job offer.
3. The only thing I am not sure of is if he can apply for this exam while on tourist visa? I saw that they are loooking for something like SSN (I don't know is that the way it is called in Canada). If this is true (and he can't get one), does this mean that no one outside Canada can obtain this certificate?
4. Can you tell me what is the labour market for industrial electricians (licenced), is it hard to get a job and are the wages high enough to live a normal life, even if only one spouse works (just for the beginning)?
5. And what level of English knowledge is demanded for trades (not in the application, but for real work)?

Hi emiiuki,

Thank you for nice words and appreciation.

1. Details and information are there : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5747ETOC.asp
2. That is true, need licence to work as electrician in Canada
3. He can apply to any community college as international student, they don't required SIN number, check the few colleges links and their requirements for application. ( # 6 )
4. Below is the link (# 7)

Hi Friends,
Im a Software Engineer from India with 3 years of IT experience. Im planning to relocate to Canada.
Will an MBA Degree workout in getting a job in Canada. I have also read so many posts saying that Doctors and MBA graduates are working as cab drivers and waiters. But I still have slight hope in canadaian market that post MBA jobs are available somewhere in the country.
I also could see lots of posts on job fairs here. How many fairs on a average have openings for MBA graduates.
As this post is moving on job vacancies i would like to know how is the market for MBA in canada.
What would you guys suggest me opt.
It would be of great help if you guys can suggest me on the same.

Hi New_Aspirant,

Software engineers IT experience with MBA will be an assets.
Just for MBA you can’t expect immediate hiring, or many job opening which require only MBA, In fact Software, IT and related skills will work.
Check the few previous posts for job fairs to know about vacancies.

Hope it helps,

Hi you guys,
It came to my attention something about the tax free jobs overseas, specifically in the UAE. In the case I got a job like that, should I declare that income in Canada ?
Thanks in advance

Hi betterfuture,

If you are Canadian citizen working abroad anywhere earning taxed or tax free income, you need to file your tax returns every year.

By Canadian citizen you also refered to permanent resident ?

Another question it might be tricky but I don't know where else to ask... I've got a bank account t in the states with my saving, should I declare it when I make my landing? I'm kind of confused about the taxes of that money.. And what about for the rest of the money that will be transferred as soon as my belongings or my assets in my original country be sold ?

Thanks as usual for your valuable cooperation

Hi Pramjit,

(Similar query was answered in this thread at reply # 805)

"It will be your choice to select your destination very carefully. I can suggest you to analyses the job market, or available jobs, living expenses, schooling/ education system, and weather conditions. As economic hub and weather-wise Toronto and Vancouver are best places to start. Winnipeg – weather is a problem for new comers, if your teacher can assist or help you in settlement than you can consider otherwise life will be little difficult comparing with other 2 mentioned cities.

I'm always suggesting these links to check the available jobs, living expensive, wages etc...
It wouldn't be hundred percent accurate in some cases but it will give you the approximate idea.

Hi betterfuture,

1. As PR when you come back to start continue residing or to establish your residency in Canada that time you need tax return.
2. There will be no tax if you bring or transfer money from your home country at any stage. (money proof required and bank fee may apply)

Hope it helps,

hmisabpk: thanks for the info

How would you rate rate IT jobs in Canada. I would like to do a PGD in Information Systems Business Analysis. What will be the future prospects for business analyst with a PGD with 3 years of relavent IT experience. Will the market prefer MBA Graduates for the opening rather than going for a profile with PGD.

What is the trend in recent times.
