Dear hmisabpk and friends,

I have been running around dropping my resumes and attending interviews this week and finaly secured a job with Bank of Montreal (BMO) today. I am so happy. In my first week in Canada, I took a survival job for three days/week and in the second week I have secured a full time job. Now, I have decided to work five days/week at the bank and two days/week at the gas station as long as my body permits me to work seven days a week. Since, I have come back to the banking sector, I will clear all relevant courses to grow my career in this sector. In the end, it was not difficult to find a job in Canada as many people have been spreading negativity on the forum.

Best wishes to every one.

Sunny

Dear brother hmisabpk,

I arrived in Toronto (Richmond Hil) on 19 April and have been looking for a position in Sales, Marketing, Business Development or Customer Service. I have over 4 years of experience out of which 15 months is in Canada (when I was here as a PG student of Marketing Management and on PG work permit). I have taken up a survival job (3 days a week - Friday/Sat/Sunday) at a gas station to avoid depletion of funds. I have visited ACCESS, Randstad and Manpower to enroll myself with them and will be going to a few more on weekdays.

Are there any job fairs coming up for above mentioned positions? Any help and guidance is most appreciated.

Best regards,

Sunny

Anybody is free to give their valuable advice!!!

Just want to get feedbacks from our forum mates. Where do you think is the best place to start as Immigrant in Canada...in terms of work? I am a nurse and my hubby is a mech. engineer. Definitely, we know that we have to start at the bottom during our first few years in Canada. We are very flexible in terms of work. My hubby can do plumbing, electronic works and something with HVAC as his expertise...what province do you think his work experience is bankable? While for me, I am a nurse but I can start working in a nursing homes. I am still in the midst of getting registered by the province. Hope to hear from those with experiences. Any recommendations....thank you!!

Dear friends,

Before arrving in Candada, I had prepared targetted resumes and cover letters for different types of positions and saved in a pen drive. I had taken help for this from many Canadian resume/job sites. I had also made a list of all employment centres and popular recruitment agencies in Richmond Hill, Markham and Toronto area. Immediately on arrival, I found that a new gas station had come up in Richmond Hill, went there and took up a job for Friday/Saturday/Sunday, keeping other weekdays free for job search. I contacted York Region Employment and Community Services YMCA of Greater Toronto, they guided me on fine-tuning my resume and cover letter. They have been sending me many job posts which are not advertised on job portals. Its sort of hitting the "Canadian Hidden Job Market" which is not visible to all. I find that Community Employment Service is reallty useful for this purpose. They advised me to personally drop my resume at few corporates. I have registered myself with "Manpower", "Adecco", "VPI Inc" and "ACCESS Employment" and getting useful leads. However, after "putting my foot in the door" at BMO, I have stopped my search for the time being. I have worked for 14 months in a bank in India in the begining of my career and am happy to come back to it. I will clear differnt banking, securities, mutual funds and insurance exams (in fact on the day I got BMO job, I bought some books before returning home) in the near future to grow within the organization. I had cleared these in India and should not be difficult.
Once again, with right, positive and focussed approach, its not that difficult to get a job.
Best wishes to every one..

@ VERNAS...

So inspired to read your first few days story in Canada. Hopefully, me & my hubby will soon end up same like you. Could you please help me how we can make our CVs more appealing and interesting to Canadians? Me & my hubby will soon be going there and we chose Toronto as there's the biggest job market and upon the advise of the many forum mates.
I am a Nurse and currently working with CNO registration. My husband is a Mech Engineer. Do you think it would be easy for us to find jobs there?
Hope to hear from you. Please continue to share positive lines in this topic...for inspiration to those still struggling to get their visas.
Happy for you!!!

Dear friend,

Since you have already done your medicals, you qualify to attend a CIIP seminar in Manila. More information is available on http://www.newcomersuccess.ca/index.php/locations/regional-offices?lang=en-GB. Please do contact them, I strongly recommend it. They will provide you tremendous information related to your and hubby's professions, job search, credentials evaluation, where to immigrate, housing, children education etc etc. I availed their service and found it extremely useful in my preparations to immigrate which included resume and cover letters review. This service is offered by the Canadian government so is transparent, unbiased and well researched.

As for resumes, I took help from following websites:
www.canadavisa.com/canadian-employment-resume.html
www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4001064

One important point is that I used to look for job postings on "Monster" and "Workopolis" and skills required for my job. I included those skills as highlights in my resume. Because your resume is uploaded in RMS (Resume Management Service) and companies conduct search for those skills to seperate/shortlist resumes meeting their requirement. I will share two very good search engines with you:
http://www.indeed.ca/
http://www.jobbankone.com/jobsearch.htm. This one targets "Canadian Hidden job market also.

Hope you will find this information useful.
Cheers..
