IRCC refers Security Screening request to CBSA. CBSA forwards an SS request to CSIS. But CSIS report is only part of overall SS. IF CSIS reports was everything, there are several applicants who, including Matt, whose CSIS is completed for months, should have gotten the PPR by now.

Most Canadian Missions abroad have a liaison office (which is either manned by CBSA, or CSIS or RCMP e.t.c) within it.. For example in Pakistan this office is manned by RCMP (surprised?) (RCMP Liaison office in Pakistan is also responsible for Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyz, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan)

One purpose of this office among many other functions is "facilitation of information exchanges between Canadian law enforcement and Pakistan law enforcement with regards to all aspects of criminality ranging from terrorism and organized crime to drugs and immigration". So, for me, since i am a Pakistani (and for any Afghan, Tajik, Iranian, Krygz, Turkemani or Uzbek), CBSA, in addition to a request of ss check by CSIS on me, will, also forward a request to RCMP liaison office in Pakistan to run a background check/local verifications on my application.

Once CBSA receives the report from CSIS and RCMP (some other agency can also be involved on request of CBSA) office in Pakistan, it will prepare an admissibility report on me and forward it to IRCC, which have the final say. Please note that in many other missions, instead of RCMP, CBSA or CSIS runs such liaison offices, and in those cases, CBSA will forward request to whichever agency from CBSA or CSIS is running that liaison office for background verifications that needs to be conducted in applicants home country.

How can I get an status update on my application from CBSA?

Cbsa dont give status updates on ss for apps of pr. You can order cbsa notes though which are of limited use from atip site.

Interesting update on my application. I have applied to extend my visa a month ago and there was nothing from CIC for a month. Normally they request passport within 2 weeks. In my case, I did not hear anything from CIC for almost a month. Then I contacted my MP's office coordinator, CIC told him that my visa was stuck on security screening (what a surprise!!!) and it has been cleared and will be receiving passport request for my visa (not for my PR). He also told me that as my visa passed security screening which might make some progress in my PR's security screening.

What kind of permit are you applying? I extend my study permit in August. I got approved in September. Now I applied PGWP a week ago, still waiting...
If you are inland, you will just need to wait to receive your permit. You don't have to mail your passport to them.

I am applying for TRV. I have my PGWP valid till 2019 April.

I had a similar situation last summer. My TRV application which was supposed to take two weeks took TWO MONTHS! It was obviously stuck in security. I eventually got my Visa, but alas! that did not help move my PR SS forward! even though I expected it to! Sigh!

Hello everyone,

Today I received documents from CSIS regarding my ATIP request for information about my Security Screening. The doc they released says "completed" in front of "status" but does not include a date on when this was completed. The only days indicated are the "request date" (which is May 25, 2017) and "Received" (which is May 26, 2017). Also, on top of the page, it indicates "as of Oct 05, 2017" which I think is the date when they released my info.

Now my question is how do you guys know when CSIS finished your SS?

I faxed them and got the letter with start and finish SS dates.

Call IRCC and check if you have been selected for security screening.
You should also order gcms notes ASAP.

Send email to Mr. Ahmed Hussein office. They might push your profile ahead. Wasting 5 months doing nothing is really pathetic.

Wowwww .. So many peoples profile has gone beyond 6 + months. All this Security Screening and additional review scenario is getting out of control. Whats the point in clearing people within 20-30 days when you have people pending since 11+ months? They should prioritize our profiles first since we have done nothing wrong compared to others who get the PPR within the advised time frame. I understand each profile is different but putting us under SS / Add. review has delayed our priorities in life and we are lagging to others who have started after us. We also paid same amount of money, have gone through same process of preparation, then why isolate us? If they want, they can do our SS after our landing and can ask us to leave, if any wrong thing found against us. But giving a fair chance to us will not harm them.
