Minister Kenney launches national consultations on immigration levels and mix

Calgary, July 12, 2011 — Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney has launched a series of cross-country consultations on immigration issues, beginning today in Calgary.

The Minister is meeting with stakeholders and the public to discuss the important issue of immigration levels and mix. Following the Calgary session today, the Minister will meet with stakeholders in Vancouver on July 18, Toronto on July 20 and Montreal on July 22. Online consultations will take place later this summer and will be open to the public.

The purpose of the consultations is to seek feedback on immigration levels, including the appropriate level of immigration for Canada, and the most suitable mix between economic, family class and protected persons. Discussions on system management to provide improved services, such as reasonable processing times, and addressing issues such as fraud, will also be included.

In planning for the total number of people to admit as permanent residents, CIC not only balances immigration objectives but also considers several other factors, including broader government commitments, input from provinces and territories, and current and future economic conditions. The Department must also consider its operational ability to process applications in a timely manner, as well as the capacity of communities to welcome newcomers.

In addition to presenting an opportunity to gather input from stakeholders and the public on key questions facing CIC, the consultations also allow the Department to share with stakeholders and the public some of the considerations and difficult choices involved in managing a global immigration system.

The consultations present an important opportunity to generate greater understanding of the trade-offs involved in setting immigration levels. There are competing visions and diverging goals for the future of the immigration program, and there is no single right answer on what the focus should be. Engaging stakeholders and the broader public in that conversation is a key part of developing a plan that will work for Canada going forward.

Invited stakeholders represent a variety of perspectives, including those of employers, labour, academia, learning institutions, professional organizations, business organizations, regulatory bodies, municipalities, settlement provider organizations and ethnocultural organizations.

A report on the consultations will be available on the CIC website once stakeholder and public consultations have been completed.

More information about the online consultations will be available on the CIC website in the coming weeks. Interested participants may sign up online at www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/consultations/index.asp.

Friends,

I haven't submitted PCC (me & wife) with my full application for 1122 (received by CIC on 6th July). I am staying in US for last 4 years and I am Indian citizen.

Can some throw some light on below questions..
1. As I didn't submit PCC with full application, will that be a negetive impact in considering my application?
2. What time I should submit PCC, do I need to wait till CIC / VO ask me to submit
3. If I intiate PCC for both countires it may take 2 months time to get, so can I start that process now or It will be invalid one, if I send more than 3 months old PCC, by the time VO verifies it.

thanks

It will not have a negative impact on the application, but CIO highly recommends to submit along with application because we may not be able to submit it in the deadline given by VO office. Its always hard to time it.
2. What time I should submit PCC, do I need to wait till CIC / VO ask me to submit
You should submit only when VO asks for it. Now that you have already submitted the application, CIO will not ask for it. After your application is transffered to the VO by the CIO, the VO will send you the request.3. If I intiate PCC for both countires it may take 2 months time to get, so can I start that process now or It will be invalid one, if I send more than 3 months old PCC, by the time VO verifies it.
After reading all the threads, I personally understand that it takes about two to three months from the time the application is received by the CIO. I guess it should be good enough if you start now.thanks

Hi
I send my application: 04/07/2011
recieved :07/07/2011 signed by: DOUGIE STEVENSON
NOC# 3113
paymanet by : credit card

If anybody encashed , please update you status ?

I am planning to apply NOC 2121- Biologist and related scientist...i got my work permit which is not related to same NOC..then even am i eligble to claim 5 points for adoptability...work permit is for 1.5 year

As far as my understanding is concerned, you should have job offer letter for a permanent job if application is successful.
Where are you living currently? In or outside Canada? If you are inside Canada with a work permit, then your work perrmit should be valid when you apply for a PR. If you are outside Canada, I would suggest you to go to Canada on your work permit and then apply for PR from Canada itself. I do not know the answer to your question regarding work permit which is not related to same NOC. Wish you all the best.

Hello everyone!

I'm about to send my application for the 3rd time and this time, I wanna make sure that I do it right. I have an immigration lawyer working on it but it seems that he hasn't been doing his job well that's why it was returned twice. >:( I have lots of inquiries that I can't find from the cic website and I hope some of you can answer them:

1. Is it ok that the employment certificates do not really indicate everything that the checklist requires? (eg. annual income, benefits, job description, etc).
2. I am currently working in Canada and was given a letter by my employer that they are willing to hire me permanently once my PR is approved. This then gives me 10 points for arranged employment and 5 points for adaptability. However, my permit expires very soon and I don't have my new permit yet. Will they still grant me points even if I am on "implied status"?
3. I have worked as a nurse in my home country. My employment there has been overlapping. I was working in a hospital while teaching in a college. Do I consider the length of my work in the hospital different from the time I worked in the college?

Once any of these would not give me points, I might not pass the passing score of 67 and it upsets me a lot.. I hope some can give advice.. I called CIC hotline and they said they are not trained to answer these questions... :(

Thanks for any response...
