Okay, so I'm Canadian and sponsoring my husband. In the application, it asks when I became Canadian... do I just put my birth date? And does that make my claim Canadian by descent? I found those two questions a bit confusing, so I really appreciate the help, even if it seems like an obvious answer. :)

Were you born in Canada?

If so - then yes - use your birthday as the day you became a citizen.

But DO NOT say yes to the Canadian by descent question. That's for people who obtained Canadian citizenship through their parents but weren't born here.

Yeah, It is confusing and there should be a checkbox saying you are a born Canadian.. It's not the only error I've found on the application or the guide. And that for sure is not clear and therefore an error. We are all left to just assume. Not a big issue, but not so straight forward.

I don't think it was a stupid question, I had the same one when I was filling the forms out too!

Scylla has it right :) Not a stupid question at all

I agree with everyone else. Definitely not a stupid question!

I was very confused too when I first saw it and had to look up the definition of "naturalized". :)
