Hey peeps,

My husbands spoken and written English is pretty good. We both took our IELTS together, but unfortunately, he didn't get the score we needed. I got L8. 5,R8,W8,S8 whereas he got L6, R6.5,W7,S6. We sat down and practiced at least 15 tests online before he took it again.. This time he got L7, R7, W7.5,S7.5. That still isn't enough.. We need a min CLB9 in order to bump our score. Right now he's in a state where he doesn't want to try again, but I'm sure he will. Any tips on improving your L&R scores? Especially from those of you who have attempted the IELTS a couple of times at least. Thanks

Keep in mind that both Listening and Reading (the answers are all right there!) Where as in Writing and Speaking you have to come up with them. This mindset really got me a good score overall. If you realize that all answers are there (in the headphones for listening and in the paragraphs for writing) Your mind will automatically focus on the important words and hopefully get you a good score! Tell your hubby to give it one more shot! Good luck.

Hello,

No worries and dont lose hope, just try again... Even i got the required score only in my 4th attempt LRWS - 8/8/7.5/7.5. i lost hope when i saw my 3rd attempt result, i was pretty devastated, but i tried 1 last time again and i got it. if you are getting distracted, think of the reason why you are taking this test - to have better life for yourself and for our loved ones. Say this yourself when preparing as well while appearing for the test (best motivators). My tips for listening would be PRACTICE!!! i would have tried atleast 100+ listening videos from youtube. 1st attempt - 8.5, 2nd - 7.5, 3rd - 9, 4th - 8. So be very strict while correcting your answers.
Check for spelling mistakes, even if u miss a single space, mark it wrong. For reading use IELTS cambridge book 10, 11,12, and 13. Dont use 1-9 series. its not that helpful. For writing, write atleast 1 - 2 complex sentences in each paragraph and 5-10 new words. For speaking, speak at length and use 1 or 2 complex sentence and again use new words while talking. it worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you also.

Thanks & Regards,
Vijay
