Hi friends,

I am going to land in Canada (Toronto) in 10 days with my family and i need your expert advice on following:

1. Things required at the immigration counter (like photos etc)
2. What we can do in these 2 weeks? like SIN card etc.

Hoping for a prompt and positive response as usual.

Regards,

DANISH

See if you can exchange your driver's license to an Ontario license to apply for OHIP, but it won't necessarily waive the 3-month waiting period to come back...that is, if you plan to settle in Ontario in the future.

Thanks for the answer. I hopefully will do this exchange as i have a plan to settle in future.

Can you please suggest the items/documents required at the time of landing at airport?

Furthermore, what things should i do in 2 weeks? I mean applying for SIN, bank account etcc.... please suggest as i want to utilize these 2 weeks.

Regards,

DANISH.

I suggest also looking at blogs written by people who have already landed.

I couldn't edit my post, but the "***Living in Toronto***" topic on this forum also has some good information.

As OP isn't actually moving to Ontario yet, they can't apply for OHIP.

Ugh yeah I just remembered they're pretty particular about the proof of residency. Had to go back several times before mine was accepted.

Thanks for your response. OHIP means health insurance. Right? So you are saying if i am going to stay for 2 weeks, i can't apply for health insurance???

Furthermore, are there pictures required at immigration/customs?

no photos req at landing. If your photos do not meet their prc criteria, they will ask for new photos via postal mail/email.

No, you can't apply for OHIP until you actually take up residence in Ontario. Note that the 3 month wait period for OHIP will start at that point, not when you land.

OP can certainly buy "visitor of Canada" insurance from private companies.
