Hi, I was wondering how I can obtain a reference letter from the current employer without telling the exact intent. The ref letter in my company has to go through manager's approval and definitely will raise questions about why such a detailed job duties are required to be mentioned. Is it possible not to mention the PR purpose? how is everyone obtaining these letters? Are you quoting the correct purpose? Pls help!

I second this question as well. I am in the US and it is hard to explain to employer why applying to immigrate to canada, without raising red flags. The problem with not being completely honest about this being for Canada immigration is that i've heard in some cases, CIC actually may call your employer to verify some facts. If you haven't been totally honest with your employer when acquiring the reference letter, a call from CIC will complicate things.

If it is your current job, you can also get a letter on plain paper signed by your colleague/supervisor and have it notarized. Submit this along with a letter of explanation and supporting documents which can include your offer letter, payslips and W2s. CIC will accept it since they would know that HR will never provide such a letter for current employment especially after revealing the reason

A couple of other options for people in specific situations -

- If you have three years work experience prior to the current job you can claim points for only those years. The additional years won't get you any advantage.
- If you are already on a work visa in another country you might also be able to use your certificate of sponsorship that normally includes your job code and responsibilities.

Hello,

I am stuck with a problem in the reference letter. I have told my HR that i am applying for a part time certification course and i would need the reference letter for it, unfortunately the subject of my letter says" Employment proof for part time certification course". But it also has a sentence " to whomsoever it may concern". Now i am really tensed if the subject of the letter would create a problem?

Please kindly help me on this .

Awaiting your response.

It does not matter as long as letter is recent and is in the format on the cic website. You can explain the subject in the LOE that you are using the same letter you used for the certification.
