Do you really think they will make the applicant go allthe way to a different country just for an interview and then return backhome , to know you have 50/50 chance to get the visa?!(spending hundreds of dollars) Theres nowhere on the application guideline saying such thing. And its gonna be at our own cost, hotel and food i guess.
For some visa offices that are in charge of several countries, the visa officers do go to the other countries once in a while for interviews: they schedule many for one week, for example. But for some offices, they definitely make the applicants travel for the interview. My husband and I had to travel through Nigeria, Benin, and Togo to get to Accra, Ghana, for his interview. You can't beat bus travel in West Africa. And the border crossings! I'm sure everyone else in the 'bush taxi' we were in was cursing the day they agreed to travel in the area with a white person. On the way home we must have been stopped every 300 meters by 'border guards' wielding machetes and semi-automatic weapons.

There was no choice. He had to go to Accra. All spousal PR applicants from Nigeria have to.

Due to huge budget cuts, the CIC suffered from lack of resources including paper, paper towel, toilet tissue paper,...
which unfortunately led some employees to be resourceful and creative.
The situation is progressing dramatically as we speak
Evidently, CIC employees are getting caught wiping their a?? with application papers

Even approvals were being emailed, though they claim it would be sent by snail mail as well. We have reasons to believe it might not be possible in the foreseeable future

This is a very very sad news for me and my husband...After 4 months of waiting from Tokyo Visa office, they will send the application to Manila. New waiting time again ???? This is very frustrating....Just a week ago my husband submit his application for a TRV with his passport...whats going to happen to his application ? are they going to send it to manila as well ? I am sooooo worried that its going to be lost....

Im in the same position. Tokyo just requested photocopies of our passport and got back to me saying that paperwork is received along with medicals and is in process. Since its been about 4 months in their hands since sponsor approval i assumed a decision was about to be made. Then I just read about this.

If anyone has any info id appreciate if you post it or send me a message. In particular i want to know if our application has been thrown to the back of the line so to speak in Manila or does it just fall into place based on where they were in the time frame.

Also the Manila Office does not provide a phone number and its Case specific email page is down. Does anyone have a solid way to send a contact request?

Chanz: are you in Japan now? Have you tried contacting them direst

No, My husband is in Japan. Yes, I tried emailing the Tokyo Office but it was a bounce back reply stating that the office is now closed.

I don´t think it will be at the end of the line inManila (or Vienna in my case). Maybe I´m too optimistic, but I guess they will maybe handle our applications with priority since they have been working on it for a couple of months. Starting from zero again wouldn´t be fair at all.

don't worry u guys :) the time u waited already does count :) and they will continue the process from where it was left...yes maybe there will b small delays but for sure u don't need to start counting from 0 again...
i followed closely how Damascus got closed a few months ago :( and how the files were transfered :( there were some people who already waited maybe 11 months and they knew they were transfered after 2 months (they don't transfer all the files in the same time, and also the transfer already started before the announcement that they closed)....so already some waited for 13 months (that used to be damascus processing time) but they got the visa a few weeks after....of course not all, it's still case by case scenario, how complete is ur file, etc but the conclusion is that they got their visa in almost the same timeline.....
also some officers from tokyo might just move to manilla (same for the other embassies) so at the end it's the same person working on ur file, knowing the culture, etc....
now abt the visit visa, i heard they might just return that application and u'll have to apply for visit visa again to manila embassy...of course it's different from embassy to embassy, so u'll say to others what they did ;)
good luck for all....stay calm!!
