The applications from April and May become slower

Is it right?
No May application got AOR and no April application got test letter until today. When you see the March and Feb applications, they are faster than that of May and April.
What are the CIC officer doing?

I sent my application late February 2017, and CIC began processing in March. I am also seeing slower timelines in my group from the previous 2 months (Dec/Jan). It looks like processing is getting slower and slower (especially for Toronto).

This could be for several reasons (I'm just making educated guesses):
  • Pending Bill C-6 outcomes in HOC (it might be law by next month)
  • Impact of Federal court ruling on the unconstitutionality of some aspects of Harper's citizenship bill http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/federal-court-citizenship-act-1.4108346
  • More people apply in Spring than winter (due to the weather)
  • I also read more refugee applications are being analyzed

But overall, yes - I agree with you that timelines are getting slower...

It appears the slowness started from February/March and getting worse and worse into April/May. The backlog is building up very quickly right now.

The most applicants who got caught and delayed by C-24 since June 2015 became eligible from this February (as it's the first tax filling season one year after C-24 due to the one year increase of residency and tax filling requirement). So there has been application surge since this February.

My goodness, $630 is only happy for us 7 months from July 2016 to Feb 2017. I think CIC should hire more staffs to process our application. There are nearly 200,000 people to apply citizenship each year, and there are $126,000,000 application fee each year.

Basically C-24 delayed many new applicants for at least a year since June 2015, so CIC used that window to clear the old backlog. The second half of 2016 was a golden age in CIC history without backlog and with minimal new applications. Now all those delayed new applicants are starting to flood CIC again since February. With C-6 on the way, there will be more and more new applicants to flood CIC. I guess the pre C-24 era of 36 months process time will come back soon.

Don't think c6 will come in effect right away..at least 6 months to 1 year
I agree. once C6 is law (which might happen sometime in July I predict) then CIC will have to change all application forms and train their officers to the new requirements as per the new law. CIC will have to update their website accordingly as well. However, CIC will consider that the same day new law is in force a huge amount of applications (many ppl affected by C-24 will be eligible on the same day) will flow in on the same day and they will be looking at some kind of a way to somehow delay or at least organize applications flow ( no idea how they will be able to do that).

Hello all,
I respect all the analysis I see here but could I ask you all to stop being negative please?! :)
April applications were sent only ONE month ago and you're already complaining about the processing time?
Remember that NONE of us is aware of the actual process and it's all guess.
We've all waited at least four years to send our application (plus however many years we waited to get our visa); now getting the oath invite takes two months or six months, is it too long or, does it make a big difference?!!!
Please stop burning your brain's phosphorous on something that we do not have any clue. We all know that CIC process doesn't follow any pattern that we discuss here.
Just leave it aside; I bet it happens at its right time. :)

I don't think there is anything negative about the analysis. we are trying to be realistic here. And yes we are worried about the processing if it is two or 6 months as you mentioned above, there is a 4 months difference here. if you are not in a hurry just don't follow up on this thread or write something that could be useful.

Thanks for your advice. I won't follow this thread anymore. and this is my last comment.
Most of the comments here are negative and forecasting longer processing time for April applications after only one month! This is not a realistic analysis nor a positive one.
I understand that 4 months is the difference between 2 and 6; what I am trying to say is 4 months within 5, 6, 7 years (or even more for some of us) is nothing.
Most, if not all, the analysis here is in favor of proving that April applications are taking longer?! I don't name this positive.

You being in hurry or not doesn't have any impact on the processing time. All you can do is to let it go and don't worry (you said you are worried) until it's done.

Enjoy your analysis though...

Good point @walktheline...I didn't think of that when I wrote my initial explanations above. This is definitely another factor that has an impact on the processing timeline

this is definitely causing a delay. Nobody from May applicants received AOR notification yet! the average days from received by CIC to AOR went up from March to April and now it has been more than 3 weeks into May and no AORs for May applicants!
