CIC agent responded saying:... Each case is different than the other.
For example, cases with dependents take more time since we need to verify at this stage if the applicant met the minimum income.
Another example, Cases where the sponsor is not living in Canada
If you were married or in a common law relation before, did you legally end the relation ... did you sponsor someone before...did you fulfill the past agreement(s)
Do you have a job?

So if you were supposed to receive a response from CIC and still have not. It is mainly because they are investigating your case further. It is unfortunate that some CIC agents can not handle our worry and would quickly respond saying things like your file might be missing...or we might have sent you back your file...or any of these responses which I read here

I am saying this to raise your spirits up high, relax ... and do not worry.

Thank for this.

I qualify for one situation, which is: I did not have a job when I submitted the application, for the reason that I have been in Canada for only 5 days when I submitted it, but I did mention that I was applying for jobs (sent them emails and application printouts as proof) and explained how I will be supporting myself for the meantime, and sent proof of that too.

Now, 3 weeks after sending the application, I landed a job and have been employed for 3 months now. I tried to send them an employment certificate in March just to give them an updated info regarding my employment status but they returned that to me saying they don't have a record of my app yet (this was when the app times on CIC website was on January 20 and thus I assumed they would have opened my app anytime around that time). Yesterday, since knowing that they finally have a record of my file, I asked if it was necessary to send my employment update again. And the agent said no, they will ask for it if they need it.

So now I am wondering if this is affecting the application since what they know is that I am unemployed. I am starting to think that this is the cause why our app is taking a long time. Besides that, we have no other "complications" like dependents, previous undertakings, criminal records, previous marriages or common law relationships.
I know that there is no minimum income required if sponsoring spouse only but I just don't want them to have any doubts regarding my financial situation as a sponsor.

Hmmmmm.. I am starting to think I should send that update again even if the CIC officer said it's not necessary... What do u guys think?

Thanks.. I think I am going to call CIC again and ask if I can fax this out instead. If not, I have no choice but to send it thru courier and spend another 50 + bucks. sigh.

I believe there's a fax number to Mississauga on their info page.

ETA: yes, it's at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/mississauga.asp

You can consider a case specific email to them. Although I am not sure if you can do that at your stage.
