Hello Asivad and other senior members here,
I have quite a unique situation I hope someone can enlighten me about. I got my PR visa last July thanks be to God.
Now I plan to land in Canada around November. After a month or so, I plan to visit Italy. After a month or so in Italy, I plan to go back to Canada to permanently reside there.
I'm aware of the other way which is to go to Italy first then Canada. But I have personal reasons why I want to go to Canada first.
I’ve been informed that I cannot re-enter Canada without the PR card which will take 8-12 weeks to be mailed to me from the time I land in Canada. The issue is that I cannot wait in Italy for that long until the PR card is released just so I can use it to re-enter Canada.
At the moment, I hold dual citizenship status. One with my current country of residence, and the other is Italian citizenship. Since I have an Italian passport, I should not need a tourist visa to enter Canada and only an eTA which is easy to get.
As a workaround to re-enter Canada without the PR card, can I use my Italian passport instead to re-enter Canada as a tourist? After entering, I will wait for my PR card to be mailed to my address in Canada.
Seems this is quite technical hence I hope someone can enlighten me on this query. Thank you very much in advance!
