That's called I94. Its not a visa. It just gives you permission to enter or remain in US for 6 months. You can't get an I94 if you dont have a valid US Visa.

Thanks for the reply minta7.
Q1. If one doesn't have a US visa, did the letter provide an option to send in the passport to some visa office for stamping?
Q2. If one has an expired TRV, wouldn't this travel across the border be a risky proposition especially if they say they cannot stamp the immigrant visa and you have to go back to Canada?

Hi Seekr,

Here are your answers

1. Did you have to take an appointment? What is the process?

No, I didn't take any appointment. You just have to take the Passport, the Passport Request(This is must, Security won't let you in if you don't have it and also Consulate Official needs to see that letter), 2 pics with white background, A draft of 490$ with you and also write down your height and color of eyes on a blank paper with you. These are all the documents which you need. You can go there on Tuesdays and Thursdays

2. What is the guarantee you would get the stamping on the same day?

If everything is good then there is 100% guarantee that you will get your Passport Stamped on the same day. In worst case, they will return your passport and ask you to come back again. They wont keep your passport with them.

3. You have to have a US visa to enter the US, right? I am assuming this is not a Canadian office right at the border.

You have to have US visa, Its hardly 500 meters when you cross US border.

Hi Seekr

Here are you answers :

Q1. If one doesn't have a US visa, did the letter provide an option to send in the passport to some visa office for stamping?

This is what the letter says

[red] Your passport(s) and your RPRF payment (if not already paid) must be submitted within the next 30 days to the Consulate General of Canada in Detroit. [/red]

As of now, they are asking you to send your passport to Detroit Office only. This might change in future, but, i guess, this won't change.

Q2. If one has an expired TRV, wouldn't this travel across the border be a risky proposition especially if they say they cannot stamp the immigrant visa and you have to go back to Canada?

If you have an expired TRV but have a valid Work Permit, you will be able to come back to Canada from US only.

I have travelled many time to US with an expired TRV. And while coming back to Canada from US, Everytime i showed them my work-permit only, i never gave them my passport.

If you are coming from any other country, then you must have a valid TRV.

Hi,

When i applied first, i was single and then i got married in Feb. And then my wife faced some issues regarding her birth certificate, which delayed my application for a some time. This was the reason i added my spouse's name in the middle of PR process. The additional documents were, her birth certificate and her PCC and IMM5669E from her side. I refilled IMM5406E and added her name.

And then i sent all the documents to Ottawa by mail. I also attached a letter, explaining my situation(that why its delayed). After that my wife got her medical within a month.

At first, i didn't want to add my wife's name and will add her name after i got my PR cuz i thought it may delayed the process, but a big thanks to the members of this forum who advised me not to do so as it might result in refusal of application.

Hello Minta7,

Congratulations to you for ur successful PR..
I would be very relieved if you could address my concern.
My husband applied for PR and he recently got an email in Oct 2016 asking him to pay 490$ saying that his background check is completed. But We got married in August in India and and he came back to canada in the same month. I came to Canada in September after getting visitor visa (Temporary resident visa). Can we add our name in his PR now, after this delay and still stand a chance in getting PR approved. Kindly suggest me the best way.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A big thanks to all of you for helping me throughout this period from beginning to end. Got my PR today.

I went to Detroit for stamping purpose and it was done within no time. Submitted my passport @ 8:30 AM and got it back @ 10 :00 AM. It was pretty quick. Completed landing at Windsor border.

Once again a big thanks to all of you for answering my questions. God Bless You All and Good Luck to all whose applications are still under process.

Thank you.
Congratulations!
My 1 question is the mentioned timeline correct? Did you apply in 2011 ?
If so why did you have to wait 5 years?

First things first - Please do not revive old threads.

A part of me does not want to answer but anyway.

Secondly, your husband needs to let CIC know about your marriage BEFORE LANDING AS PR (VERY IMPORTANT). CIC will let you know what the next steps are to follow. When you got the visitor visa, did you mention you are married.

Hi dbss,

Firstly, I did not know that I should not revive old threads.. i just wanted to congratulate minta7 and make sure he/she sees my message.I am sorry if that was against rules.

However thanks for your reply... I have got my visitor visa as a dependent after mentioning my marriage with a person whose PR is under processing. I hope this does not give scope to any problem

Thanks for understanding. Please make sure your husband gets in touch with CIC office processing his PR application and lets them know about your marriage. They will let him know how to proceed further.
