Hi everyone just wanted to start a new topic related to this since one of the Feb. applicants got a test invite by email.

The last time I contacted CIC to check on my application they said the next correspondence would be by regular mail (snail mail).

Anyone else experienced this new test invite email??

I really hope that they will switch to e-mail correspondence with the applicants.

I don't trust the regular mail for that kind of important communication.

I have mixed feelings about getting test invitation by email. Yes, it would make it very convenient for the applicant but maybe a little too convenient. Those who leave after submitting application could get away with it. They can stay outside of Canada up to 5 months awaiting email test notification. After all you only need to stay in Canada 6 months to "reside" in Canada. So one could leave Canada awaiting for email. So easy to not worry about notification. Whereas one tend to get worried if test request was sent by mail. Makes you worry.

Getting letters by mail from CIC is one of the tools for CIC to make sure you are in Canada. Email doesn't mean anything as you can be anywhere in the world and get your notification.

What you say is true, but on the other hand sometimes these letters are getting lost and the processing person might read this as abandoned application while at the same time the applicant have been all the time in Canada without any clue that CIC have sent any latter to him/her.

For example last October one important letter from CRA addressed to me got lost and I found out about that letter when I called CRA couple of weeks later.

Sometimes important letters are getting lost and now this is dangerous for the candidates because the agent can assume the case as abandoned if someone doesn't respond fast or didn't show up on the test date.

I agree with that as well regarding potential lost mail. However to reduce potential mail lost, CIC should at least send out two mails prior to appointments. This way if the first mail get lost, the chances of the 2nd mail getting lost would considerable. Not 100% but it would certainly drop the rates of applicants not showing up due to lost mail.

To be honest this is my biggest concern when I apply for citizenship, the lost mail scenario.

If they ask in the application other options for communication with the applicants like e-mail or telephone they should use those as well.
I really don't trust regular mail service specially here in Canada and US. I have bad experience in both countries when we talk about regular mail.

2 consecutive letters yes good idea but I don't think that they will start doing it.
And I am sure that they know that regular mail is not really efficient communication method.

E-mail on short 24 hours notice would be best way to reduce fraught, safe way of delivery and more convenient than checking mail box. But that again would raise more problems. There would be bunch of people blaming for having already plans for more important things to do that day, not having enough notice time, not enough time to check email every day, lost email, deleted by accident email, spam filters, treatment like second class citizen's and so on. I see phone calls or old fashion walk-in to your nearest CIC office as best method of communicating.

In the application, it asks if we would like communications to be made via email, and that's what I put. Emails are much better, faster and i received mine 2 weeks before my test, which is identical to regular mail.

People saying its unfair because people outside of Canada will be notified, well in that case the issue is not about mail/email notifications anymore. This becomes an issue of residency that they have to clarify with the officer, who will ask: Why were u outside canada recently? or when was ur last trip?
