Temporary Resident Permit Info (TRP)

Hello, I find there is not a lot of information on here about the Temporary Resident Permit for those who are inadmissible. I guess there are not many people who find themselves in this situation. Unfortunately, my partner is. I was wondering how long it has take people to receive an answer for their TRP Application? We had to send ours to Mexico City and its been nearly 3 months without a word from them. Would we normally receive an email that they have started processing it?

If I do not have a file number, does this mean the application has not started to be processed?

From my understanding, it can take quite some time to submit a TRP application outside of Canada. The fastest way is to apply at the Canadian border where they will have an officer review your application.
