Hi,

We applied for the CL visa in September and have already received SA. When we applied, we were both working in Canada. Now circumstances have changed and to remain together while we wait out the visa we have gotten 6 month visas to live and work in Mexico.

My mailing address will remain the same, at my parents house in Canada.

Do I need to notify CIC that we have new jobs and are re-locating temporarily?

As long as you intend to move back to Canada once the COPR has been issued then I can't forsee you having any problems. I'm not sure whether CIC need to know given your mailing address is still the same. If they ask you for further information or an interview then maybe that could cause some issues given you are not physcially located in Canada.

If the COPR is issued while you were away then your partner would have to enter as a visitor initially when you return and then maybe flagpole at one of the border crossings to invoke the PR.

On one recent occasion a PR applicant landed at Pearson with COPR but their sponsor remained in the US as she had applied to do a masters in the US. Given they were not intending to move to Canada immediately then the CBSA agent refused her partner entry as a PR as he no longer met the criteria for family class. So I guess the moral is return as a couple and not just your partner while you continue to reside in Mexico to finish employment. (if that were to arise).

If I get the COPR mailed to us (my parents would recieve it) to Mexico then he can enter directly and get PR without having to flagpole correct?

Ok so would it be more ideal then to just send them a copy of the visas and say look, they are only 6 months so you can see we dont plan to stay once we have PR... or will this just make things more complicated?

I wonder if they really wouldnt give the PR if he arrived on his own? In comparison to a Masters degree which feels very permanent, this is just a 6 month work/travel visa it would be very strange of them to deny him based on that...

Yeah I guess they could mail it....don't know why I didn't think of that! In my opinion I wouldn't bother sending the visa as I think it would cause more hassle.

On your last point it's totally dependent on the CBSA officer. He might have no problems but they might question if you are still in Mexico....then the whole job in Mexico might be an issue....there is a lot of mights in there which you probably want to avoid. It's more about showing intent, getting a job in Mexico doesn't quite show intent to return to Canada, for all the CBSA agent might know you could apply for another 6 months if he lands your partner. It's just my honest opinion but given the amount of time, effort and money that goes into a PR application you want to avoid all potential pitfalls.
