Hello

A buddy of mine that's kind of stuck here, but he was recently offered a job as some sort of cleaning supervisor. I was trying to help him out and found this temporary policy for visitors. From my understanding, the employer needs to send an LMIA first and wait for a positive/negative response. Then my friend applies for a work permit supported by this LMIA.

Is this the correct course of action? Anyone experience this application or has done one? As mentioned, he only has temporary status here as a visitor and is still valid.

Any response or guidance is appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes - that's right. LMIA is the first step.

Oh I see. So the employer does the LMIA and during that period of time, my friend has to keep his status within Canada. Currently, from what he told me, they gave him an extension up until May 25, 2021. Safe to say he should apply for another extension and mention on the extension and LMIA application has been done for him to apply for a work permit. Would that work in securing his extension all considering it's not guaranteed. Thanks.

Yes - he will need to apply for another extension while he waits for the results of the LMIA application.

There's never a guarantee an extension will be approved.

For sure, no guarantee as I even told him so. You have been very helpful and I appreciate your feedback. I'll get back to explain everything!
