Can anyone help me on following
I am canadian citizen and my children were born outside canada.I have recently applied for proof of citizenship at embassy in islamabad.
They told me it will take almost one year to process the application. Is tehre anyway I can take them with me to canada. age are 4 & 2 years. Is it possible to apply for temp passport.. what is the procedure and what docs i need..Apprciate.Tks

since they are 4&2 may be you can put them on your passport

I assume they are dual citizens and have some other passports as well? If that is the case, you can apply for a facilitation visa for their existing passports.

If your children were under 2, you would be able to apply for temporary passports for them but for children 2 and older, it's usually facilitation visas instead.

dear leon..Thanks for your reply..Usually what documents i need for applying for facilitation visa and for temp passport chil under two

You can find the forms for a passport here: http://www.ppt.gc.ca/info/form.aspx?lang=eng&region=Canada and it should have all the instructions on there too.

[Dear Leon, Thanks indeed for the information and link. In my case I have got the visa instructions now, and soon it will be stamped, visa validity mentioned is March 2014, and its 7th month of my pregnancy, if I do not go then to add child's name would be a hectic process, so I have finalized to go prior birth of baby, but I will need to be back in 2 months time, will it be possible to get passport of kid within this.

Secondly, in the link I think I will be under Non Canadian in canada and in that case they issue certificate so will that be sufficient to travel back to dubai, I am really worried and concerned as I will have to come back in 2 months time preferably early

I would really appreciate your guiance and advice. Thanks, Ruhi]

I don't know how long it takes to get a birth certificate but once you have it, you can get a passport in as little as 2 days if you pay the fee for fast processing. Your baby will be a Canadian so you are not looking at the application for non-Canadian in Canada but for a Canadian in Canada, minor child. I think 2 months should be enough.

However, keep in mind that you may have issues with health coverage if you land in certain provinces. If you land in Ontario or BC, you have a 3 month waiting period until you are granted health care. Further more, Ontario requires that in order to keep your coverage for health care, you need to be in Ontario at least 5 months in your first 6 months and if you are arriving now and giving birth in July and leaving 2 months later, you will not make it to stay 5 months in your first 6. Further, all provinces have a rule about living in the province 6 months a year and I know a case of BC health actually revoking health coverage retroactively because a person did not stay 6 months in the first year after arriving in BC so if you do this, make sure you land in some other province.
