Hello people!

An individual from Greece, who is getting medicine against multiple sclerosis, how can he get the medicine from Canadian public health insurance if he come as tourist for less than 6 months?

Thank you in advance!

He'll have to pay for the medication out of his own pocket. He doesn't qualify for Canadian public health insurance as a visitor and no private insurance plan will cover these costs since it's a pre-existing condition.

Is this official? There is no other way?

Except the previous question, if he has another health issue (headache for example), can he go to a public hospital without paying?

Again, visitors don't qualify for the Canadian public health insurance. If he has a headache and wants to have it taken care of then he will either have to pay for this care out of his own pocket - or purchase private insurance in advance (e.g. travel insurance) that will cover these costs.

scylla is right. No regular visitors to Canada are eligible for the government insurance coverage and will have to pay for all necessary medical services, unless you have a private insurance policy.

As for the private insurance, you basically have two options. You can either purchase travel insurance in your country of citizenship/permanent residence or buy Visitors to Canada insurance from a Canadian insurance provider. Benefits wise, travel insurance package may seem to be more comprehensive, yet there are a lot more conditions to be met in order to get covered, limitations and exclusions compared to Visitors to Canada insurance. A Canadian insurance policy for tourists would be much easier to use if you require urgent medical assistance within Canada.

You can calculate a personal quote for the Canadian insurance plan and check out the benefits here - Visitors to Canada Insurance
