If you have your letter of introduction, they'll give you your work permit:

Guys, just to share my experience. My flight to Canada was last May 05. I
Kuwait - Heathrow - Calgary - Fort McMurray. Immigration was really doing their job! Piece of advice to those who are traveling soon. Make sure to let your employer be aware of your arrival. In my case, the officer called on my employer and asked few questions such as: Are you expecting an employee to come very soon? What was the employee name? At which restaurant that this employee gonna work? Good thing I was untouched with my employer otherwise I could hardly get permit! Also make sure that you have a copy with you of the following: LMO, Job Offer & eEmployment Contract. All these where based on my experience! Hope this will help you guys!

The moratorium is ridiculous, there have been very serious wide-spread problems with the TFW for years. The Harper government has refused to do anything to fix any of those programs.

Now, suddenly a few stories hit the news about abuse (abuse that has been going on for years and the government was well aware of, including human trafficking) and Jason Kenney panics and suspends the program for restaurant workers.

Harper and Kenney are hoping this will ease Canadians fears about the program, and once the story is out of the newspapers, they can start it back up again with no changes.

The government should not be governing based on panic and cynical political maneuvering. The TFW program is fundamentally flawed. It needs to be fixed for all sectors. I really have no faith at all that the Harper regime will do anything substantive to fix the program and make it work for TFW and Canadians alike. This government is horrible for foreigners and Canadians alike.

Hi! Would like to ask, how about the tfw going on a vacation outside the country? Are they also affected with this moratorium? I am leaving the country for a vacation this July and just worried bcoz i heard an incident that a certain tfw was not able to re-enter canada just recently. The fact that u have ur travel documents such as trv, passport and guarantee letter from the company, should be okay. But still wondering what happened? Or what could be their basis for them to let you re-enter the country(with this moratorium issue).

The problem is that some immigration officers in the airport is not fully aware of the moratorium issue. My friend have been held in the airport overnight last Sunday when he came back from vacation. He said in the immigration line all TFW are automatically asked to proceed to the office and we're asked few questions.Since it was a Sunday, he was asked to wait until the next day.All 4 Filipinos that was on the same flight with him was sent back. They are new comers with all the documents on hand. They even called up their employer but it did not helped to convince the officers. My friend said his heart was crushed seeing them crying and trying to plea. For him he was released the next day.He said the immigration officer even offer him food for the night. He said he was lucky still to be allowed to go in.He is on BOWP as he have an application on process.

OMG! I thought as long as you have letter of approval from cic, and visa, IO will give you work permit. http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/lmo_ref/q_a.shtml

Are there any other reason why those 4 Filipinos were not able to obtain work permit? I am asking this because I am also a newcomer and will fly on may 30. My port of entry will be in Calgary. I am from Phil.
