I work currently as a post-doctoral fellow in Victoria for almost two years (not yet meet CEC 2-year full-time equilvalent) and my current job contract ends in Jan. 2013 (will be eligible by then).

A local company that works in solar power systems wants to hire me for a technical job that lasts only six months, which starts in October 2013. I am deeply interested in this job and my current employer agrees to let me go and will take me back after I finish this 6-month task. Therefore, I believe I need to apply for a new work permit, and switch jobs from a post-doctoral fellow to (maybe) system engineer.

While postdoc don't need the HRSDC for an LMO, I am afraid the solar job does need

From what I heard, the LMO takes approximately 8-10 weeks, after which the new work permit application takes 8-10 as well, based on my current experience :(

Is there some other work that allows the solar company to hire me fast for only half a year, as fast as possible?

Thank you very much and appreciate any reply :)

Not really, they like everyone else have to apply for the LMO, and wait after advertising the position. You could apply for a work permit at the border, once you have the LMO.

Thanks PMM, I am in Victoria right now.

I notice from the CIC website that if some company wants to hire a foreign worker that already satisfies the two-year full-time equivalent requirement, they could support (and hire) the worker through a CEC program. But since the job only last 6 months, they probably won't do that for me.

If I may ask, presumably, if a company supports a potential employee through the application of the CEC program, is it faster and easier to get the permanent residentship?

Thanks
