TEF French test New Zealand

Hi all,

Applying for Permanent Residence under the Express Entry system requires you to pass the TEF test for French, right?
I live in NZ and according to the Centre de langue francaise, the TEF should be available in Auckland. After inquiring yesterday, however, I've been told the TEF test isn't available in Auckland. As the TEF is compulsory under EE I guess the only option would be to go to one of the neighboring countries, but that seems rather outrageous to me.

Anyone in the same situation?

You need to achieve a sufficient result in either French OR English.
French is only compulsory if you're applying for a French-speaking PNP stream.

As a kiwi, I assume you're English is pretty good. So you should have no problems getting the necessary results in IELTS.

Doing both the IELTS and TEF will gain you extra points (provided you do sufficiently well in both), but it's only necessary to do one.

Thank you for your reply! You're right, I would like to take the TEF test for French as French is my other native tongue. That way I'm hoping to be eligible for the Ontario PNP: French Speaking Skilled Workers Stream.

The only problem is that it seems TEF is not available in New Zealand and I'm wondering if the only way I can take this test is by going to Australia?

I've encountered the same problem. Sydney doesn't seem to offer TEF, only TCF, so I'm going to have to fly to Melbourne to sit the test.
If it's not available in NZ, then I'm guessing Australia is the only option, because there's no online version (at least not for the oral portion).

I had very similar problem with TEF. it was not available in my country either, but since I sit still in Europe, I could choose between 2 neighbour countries. Still it was a nuissance to travel 6 hours just to take the test and then to travel back.
And here is the delicacy on the top. I have to pick up the certificate by myself at the testing center, so I will have to travel there again.
Other than that that test was not that difficult (even if my French has become a bit rusty).
Funny enough I found English test to be more tricky.

I have now been in touch with several Alliances, French and Canadian Embassies, Sydney Visa Office, Chambre of Commerce in Paris, CIC and nobody seems to be able to help me. Any ideas of who to contact in order to find out if a TEF test could be organized in New Zealand? Cheers!

Thanks for that but they don't offer the TEF and that was the only place in NZ.

Vensak, did you do TEF in Sydney ?
Because Sydney doesn't seem to offer it.
I've found various places online that say that TEF can be done in Sydney, but there's nothing about it on the Alliance Francaise website.

Melbourne and Brisbane do offer it, though.

After also contacting the Brisbane office, I found out that the TEF is only available at L'Alliance in Melbourne. No TEF available in the whole of New Zealand, neither in Syndey or Brisbane. For both Australia and New Zealand the TEF is only available in Melbourne.

Nope,
I did it in Europe. I have only checked map of institutes for canadian TEF yesterday. There were 2 adresses for Sidney. Howver I guess they do not do it on all now.
My experience from Europe was, that I was sitting alone that test (very strange compared to the overcrowded IELTS).
Other comment is that from my experience TEF is much more user Friendly
Reading and listening was done on computer. yes they did have something like repeated listening and they did have something like time for the candidate to read the questions first. And they even have something like possibility to click to next question if you were already finish. Not to mention, that you had headphones on your head.
Same for reading, also you had overal time limit you could click on continue when you wanted.
The disadvantage was, that you could not go back to the previous question.

IELTS looked like a way to lower scores just to force people to repeat the test.
Why I can tell it, because my husband as native English speaker scored lower than me everywhere exept speaking (and even there he was just average 7).

Excuse my curiosity, but why anyone would want to leave New Zealand to settle into another developed country? New Zealand is as good as can be...
