TEF - 15 points for French

Hello,

I have a question regarding the 15 points that we can receive for having a high level of french.

I am a francophone, and I composed the TEF and scored almost perfect results.

I have not taken any english exam, because I do not have a high level of english.

On the Government of Canada website, it says that you can get "15 additional points if you scored CLB 4 or lower in English (or if you didn’t take an English test)".

I didn't take any english test, however in the CRS tool I have never been able to get the 15 extra points. When I submitted my Express Entry profile online, it also didn't add the 15 points.

Would anyone know the solution to this problem? Is it a glitch in their system, or am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

(BTW I had help from a friend to type this in english)
(Also, I know that we can get upto 30 points if we also have a moderate level of english to add to our high french competency, I am only seeking to add the 15 points).

15 points for French skills? I never heard of such thing.
It's 30 points with CLB7 or more, and you only get them if you take both language tests...

Hello, thanks for your reply, this is from the government of Canada website:

"We’ve made some changes to the Express Entry system:
You can now also earn up to 30 additional points for strong French language skills (even if French is your second language).
If you score NCLC 7 or higher on all four French language skills, you can get
15 additional points if you scored CLB 4 or lower in English (or if you didn’t take an English test)
30 additional points if you scored CLB 5 or higher on all four English skills"

If you did not indicate second language english, even if you do not have test results then you cannot get points.

It is not a glitch. How do you want to get bonus points, if you cannot prove that you are bilingual. Take English test, get it on CBL 4 at least and then you will get your bonus points. And some points for second language as well.
Hello, thanks for your reply.
I don't want the points for being bilingual, I want the points for being francophone.

I am asking regarding this which is from the government of Canada website:
"15 additional points if you scored CLB 4 or lower in English (or if you didn’t take an English test)"

They are saying that you can get 15 points for french, if you have a high level of french, and a low level of english, or no english at all, including no english test results, since it says "(or if you didn’t take an English test)".

Any insight is welcome and appreciated.

I think I understood the problem.
I think there is a discrepancy indeed in the way CRS score is calculated in this case.
The CRS tool and EE CRS calculation will only give you 15 points if you actually take an IELTS exam and score less than CLB4.
However, the website clearly indicates that you can get the points even if one hasn't taken an english test...

In other words, you only get 15 points if you answer "yes" to the question of second language test, and select score of CLB 4 or less (even with lowest bands). Just tested it.
Very strange indeed...

Thank you very much. This is exactly my problem.

When preparing my EE profile, I considered just saying yes to having english test results, and just putting whatever info, with the lowest possible test results, just to get the 15 points. However, I was worried that this would compromise my profile, as I do not really have any results for english examination.

I get the same results as you when I do what you mentioned through the crs tool, and have been trying to resolve this issue for months now, without even finding anyone with this issue.

Also, I remember a while ago, people were having issues receiving the points for having studied in Canada while preparing their Express Entry profile, and it had to do with some sort of glitch in the system. I was just wondering if this is the same thing.

I am glad that someone else has finally seen this. At one point I felt like I was the only person in the world getting this problem.

Hmmm....
A very interesting situation.
I'm thinking maybe you can do that but it's risky. Select IELTS and enter the lowest score possible, and provide letter of explanation instead of IELTS report. But it may be a bad approach, as they probably won't go ahead and investigate if it's indeed a glitch.
Do you have the option of actually taking the IELTS and just scoring whatever score?....

The problem with taking the IELTS is that it isn't offered in my country, and I would need to travel to a neighboring country for one day to register, then for three days to compose, and then another day to get the results. That would be 3 trips to another country. I had already inquired just in case.
Thank you for your help today. It was and is greatly appreciated. I guess I should try and contact the government directly again.

Try using the "report technical issue" button at the top of your EE profile page.
I guess that's the only option right now.

Thank you I will do that, and see what I get as a response. If I do get a response I will post it here in case others have the same question.

I guess like Vensak said maybe you didn't indicate you can use both languages, I remember there was a question like that somewhere. Then you indicate which one you prefer etc. I wonder if that has any effect.

If you are not gaining those 15 points even though you are including English as second language and responding "no" to the question "did you take a test?", that´s weird. You should have add those 15 points. Report technical issue as @Peacekeeper87 is suggesting to you.

Too bad that IELTS is not offered in your country because you could get 30 points instead of 15 (reading your posts, I believe you could get the minimun CLB 5 required)
