Hi Guys,

I have a very important question. I want to know if the job title "technical support generalist" falls in the skilled occupation list or not. If yes, then which category?

According to my search - I have done my searching on the cic website and have found the following titles listed in category - 2282 (NOC - B) :-

analyst, systems technical support
call centre agent – technical support
client support representative – systems
computer help desk representative – systems
computer help desk supervisor
hardware installation technician
hardware technical support analyst
help desk agent, technical
help desk analyst – systems
help desk supervisor, computer
help desk technical agent
help desk technician
installation technician, hardware
installation technician, software
PC (personal computer) support analyst
software installation technician
software technical support analyst
supervisor, technical support
systems support representative
systems technical support analyst
technical help desk agent
technical support analyst – systems
technical support supervisor
user support technician

Now, going through the list, I could not find the exact job title that I am working in i.e "technical support generalist"? Its in technical support, but does not match the titles exactly mentioned in the eligible list?

I want to know, whether I am going on correct path or I should quit my job and look for some other job that matches the title?

I will really appreciate anyone's immediate and correct guidance on this.

Thanks,
Jay

I believe that you have identified the correct NOC. The job roles are far more important than the job titles.

Need to know your duties before we can provide any guidance.

Please list your duties in dot points.

It is 2282

Your title doesn't have to be in the list, but your duties have to meet NOC 2282.

If you could provide your duties that would be better.

Some of the key Job responsibilities :-

  • Creation of support tickets
  • Tier 1 technical support
  • Review of system monitoring and create tickets
  • Booking of service calls with technicians and clients
  • Basic troubleshooting and repairs of computers
  • Testing and burning of hardware/software
  • Review analysis and updating of in field inventory using Microsoft CRM
  • Support in testing hardware/systems as per test script

There are some other responsibilities as well but those are general administration/documentation etc

When I compare word by word for the job responsibilities I am unsure/confused whether it will be considered as good fit or not?

The main job responsibilities under NOC 2282 are:-

  • Communicate electronically and in person with computer users experiencing difficulties to determine and document problems experienced
  • Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions
  • Emulate or reproduce technical problems encountered by users
  • Provide advice and training to users in response to identified difficulties
  • Provide business systems, network and Internet support to users in response to identified difficulties
  • Collect, organize and maintain a problems and solutions log for use by other technical support analysts
  • Participate in the redesign of applications and other software
  • May supervise other technical support workers in this group.

Now, on comparison, does anyone think that I am good for it? Or not? [Please compare these standard job responsibilities to my job responsibilities mentioned above]
Also, let me know if I can get some expert person in Toronto to solve this? I have to get through this as I have very limited time...

Please checkout my duties and expected roles...do you find it okay?

Sorry to say this but you role seems to be a support role for NOC 2282. So it will not qualify.
