Hi all,

I am a 30 year old rugby player from Northern Ireland and I am interested in finding out what i am required to have in order to teach and coach rugby in Canada. I understand different regions will have more availability for teachers than others but in order to even begin looking at jobs i need to find out what specifically i need to have as a teacher. I would like some help knowing where to start. I have a BSc Honours degree in Sport, Health and Exercise Science and PGCE in Secondary Physical Education with Qualified Teaching Status. However, i am not sure what else i would need. Any help would be appreciated.

Requirements will vary by province so you will have to contact the licensing board in each province. You will either be denied licensing and be told to repeat masters teaching course to teach at a public school, be told to take bridging courses or be given a license. There is a surplus of teachers in most areas of Canada so getting a job as a teacher may be another huge obstacle. In can take 5+ years in some areas to get a full year contract or permanent job. Do you qualify for PR or are you trying to get IEC just before you don’t qualify? IEC spots can be difficult to get as well.
