Hi All,

I was in the process if applying for immigration to Quebec and wanted some help/guidance with the TCF exam. I am already enrolled in the French classes at the Alliance Francais but wanted to know how difficult it is to take the TCF exam after 1 month of classes. Any help from any of you will be appreciate it. Please share your experience with me if any of you have taken the TCF for Quebec. Thanks.

Hi

I gave TCF a couple of months back. I feel that with just 1 month of prep it can be a little difficult (esp listening part), unless you have previously learnt french. TCF is a progressive test, Listening had 30 questions with 30 audios, 5 each for levels A1 to C2. You may go as far as you can. Audio was played only once. You may take a shot for questions from level A1, A2 and maybe even B1, beyond that things might bounce over your head.

Speaking had 6 conversation topics, I guess 1 topic for each level. Initially convesations are mainly abt introduction, likes dislikes, background, simple situations etc and progress towards more vague topics where you have to express your thoughts, make arguments and counter-agruments etc. You may speak as much as you want for 60sec or 90 sec i think. It was overall easier than listening part and people generally score atleast an A2 if you can handle the first 2-3 questions well. Incase you dont understand a question , make sure to clarify it, its better than answering it wrongly. The person posing the questions was very nice in my case. Speak clearly as audio is recorded and is evaluated by native french people (not the person posing the questions)

Comprehension and language structures sections were along the lines of listening section, with easier questions in the beginning and difficult questions later
Did not give the writing section.
Hope it helps !
